I am a big fan of scaling in a game, it gives you something to work too, modifying your gear and then seeing a tangible change in your dmg or other aspect of an ability and for the most part I think GW2 has a good mix.

Problem comes in for me with pets and packs, necromancer pets don’t scale at all, nor do guardian spirit weapons and as far as I have heard engineer packs do scale from stats but have fixed weapon dmg. Doesn’t this trivialize these abilities at high level with maxed out gear ?

Sure you don’t NEED pets or spirit weapons but why put them in if they become trivial ? I think it would be cool if I had the option to build my necro with toughness gear and have tougher pets, or that my +power builds adds some dmg to them and their abilities.

Has there been anything from arenanet if this is intended or if it was just a quick fix for release to decide how much they need to scale ?

Yes necromancer pets are terrible or several reasons.

1. They have a blue name above the pet so it’s very hard to see where your pets are in the battle sometimes.

2. They don’t attack when I am auto-attacking. I have to cast a mark and then they are very slow to respond and they pause on the way to the target sometimes.

3. They attack on their own sometimes. Especially npc mobs. If I target a mob and begin setting things up, the bone minions will attack by themselves sometimes.

4. Shadow fiend. Are you serious? 1 second blindness spell every 30 seconds (I think that’s correct)

5. Bone minions have terrible health and/or armor. It’s very difficult to use them as bombs .

I remember something in one of the game updates or blogs that Anet said they don’t scale the pets because they buff their dmg/def and HP to balance it out… don’t think that is working too well. In GW1, minions always scaled to level in areas or your character level of 20.
