So, i’ve recently dinged 80 with my guardian and i’ve been toying around with the idea of leveling a second character to 80. The problem that i am having currently is not knowing which class would be a great followup to the guardian. There are 8 awesome classes (professions, w/e) and i only have 5 character slots to fill. 1 is taken up by my main. I haven’t got a clue what i want to fill them with.

I’m a huge fan of PVE, i don’t pvp much. One of the things i enjoy about my guardian is the versatility, the ability to support my group, and the downright durability offered by the profession. I do enjoy running dungeons quite a bit, so i suppose my questions are: What classes did you guys pick? What caused you to gravitate toward said class initially? And after playing the class to X level, what are the most common Pros and Cons that you have noticed with your favorite class?

I’d like to receive your input prior to dedicating X number of hours to a class that either evolves into something i’m not interested in, or passing up a class that will eventually evolve into something truly head and shoulders above what i’m expecting in terms of gameplay.

Thanks for your ideas and in advance, i appreciate it!

I main a Thief.

Thieves are awesome. We can do a surprisingly large number of things. Condition damage? Check. Power/precision? Checkeroo! You wanna live? We’re good at that!

Thieves are versitile and can fit a LOT of playstyles. The only ones they suffer at is Ranged DPS and Support.

That’s not to say they don’t have options! Pistols can be useful, and the shortbow can help the team out, but at the end of the day There’s nothing you can do that an Elementalist/Ranger couldn’t do better. At least, in The Ranged DPS/Support roles.

The one thing I dislike about the class is actually a side effect of it’s utility. I currently run 3 different armor sets, ankittenhinking about picking up a 4th. I respec my traits about once a week or so depending on my mood, and once I get the dagger skin I want, I’ll have the tough decision of which dagger I actually want to put it on!!!

But yea, Thieves are awesome.

If you like versatility go with an engineer with all their toys they’ve got more versatility than a Swiss army knife

I agree with the engineer. While some classes are sorta restricted to a typical gamestyle at a particular time, I kinda believe engies to be “jack of all trades, master of none” class. They don’t have that big burst damage (unless you count pistol poison volley or rifle’s jump shot), but excel in continued sustained damage as well as being prepared for a variety of situations (usually).

I myself run a tanky bomberman with pistol/shield. I love to get in the middle of any fray (especially if there are alot of mobs), but i can always pop back out and provide support on my pistol (skill #3 is a godsend, almost no cast time iirc) and shield throw. Point is, I have options for melee (default), range, condition application (not the ones that damage, ones that give utility benefits like blind, slow, chill(on grenade)), and a bit of disruption (shield).

It’s… kinda weird to get into at first though, as initially you really can’t place your finger on what exactly an engineer should be. But eventually, you’ll make it up as you go along :P

Don’t disturb me, I have a cat in me at the moment.
