Selling Stuff to cheap?
Not all of them want to go to a npc to sell stuff. Also 4 copper difference means nothing. And also, some of them do not check the vendor prices.
But most of all, for 4 copper difference, you cannot be bothered to go to an npc and vendor them when you just want to empty your inventory and keep looting. It is sometimes faster to just sell at a little loss and keep killing mobs then TPing to a merchant, sell the items and run back to where you were.
Hmmm, didn’t think of that. Middle of nowhere you want to clean your bags. I like that response, thanks!
Also consider that not everyone sees the game as a competition and fierce rivalry. Some people are just kind to others, even strangers and feel good about having helped someone. I know this is rare nowadays and absent in most online games but I welcome it.
What, kind people, feeling good to help others. This sure isn’t another community we all know. I too welcome it:)
I had stocked up 20+ items to drop in the TP when it came up. Once it did I noticed they were selling for 1c over the merch. So I merched them. 25 items merched is an extra silver to me.
The other option is see how many people are selling at that price, then mark it higher.
Odd as it may seem, this community is cooperative like no other current MMOG. I have been in the L15 raids in human and silvari areas a few times. In the aftermath of these massive battles (one had at least 30-40 players), folks were giving away (yes, free of charge to strangers) really nice green quality gear drops.
Coin will come through quests, events, personal storyline progression and map completion. Making a killing on the market is not on my agenda here.
If you are a crafter, you’ll find that most of the time it’s better to simply salvage the items you craft rather then vend them or put them up on TP for 1c over vend value. At least that way you get some of the mats back to keep crafting with!
It’s nice for buying, but it makes it hard to make money crafting.
2 possible reasons:
1) Not everybody realise there is a listing cost
2) Not everybody is good at basic economics
I’ve noticed a lot of people selling for that extra copper, but not seeming to realise this is costing them money. I expect more people will learn how the TP works over time.

FYI… the cost of selling on Trading Post is not just 5%. That’s just the listing fee. Once an item sells, an extra 10% is taken. Total cost 15%!

Trader competition aside, many people are losing valuable coin that could be in their pocket. It adds up!
Yeah, I think they just don’t understand the system fully yet. Otherwise, why do it?
