Just make sure it’s a friend you can trust because if they choose not to send it back then you’ve lost it forever. Anet won’t get it back for you.

Yes, they are. But as others have said, you can just use the bank to transfer it. Mailing items to your own account is prohibited, because you could exploit this to expand your inventory.
