Guild Wars 2

Hello, I am new to this game, and am having a bit of trouble choosing a server. My German friend and I both purchased this game when it was on sale, and would like to play together. She is in a German server, but I am from New Zealand. I wanted to join a guild with her, but I am not sure what the best option for me is, as my German is not very good. I am also not sure how high my ping will be based on which server I choose, as my country is not close to Germany or America. I have read that you can guest on a server, but also that a large part of this game is about community. Would I be better off to guest on her server when we play, and join one with my native language? It’s either that or I join her server, join a guild with her, and guest on English servers when she is offline. Thoughts? Thanks.

There is no guesting anymore, they moved over to mega servers.
So if a map gets full it opens up another map.

Only 2 restrictions are all eu servers are 1 mega server, all na servers are 1 you cant mix the two.
nr2 you cant play world vs world with her if your not on the same shome erver.

Thank you for your reply. Based on your response, I suppose I will have to join the German server she has joined, so we can play together as we planned. I don’t really mind, my main concern is the language barrier between myself and other players, also the possible ping issues.

You can join any of the non French/Spanish/German European servers unless you want to WvW (server vs. server PvP) together. All European servers can play together, but if you join a German server you get grouped with your fellow German server players as first priority, which may be a hindrance if you don’t speak German (lots of German map chat).

As a fellow NZ’er who has tried accounts on both NA and EU, your only real choice to play with her would be to both go for NA. Our 3rd world internet definitely doesn’t handle EU very well in my experience!

That’s disappointing news, as playing in the NA region really wouldn’t work for either of us. My friend chose a specific German server based on where her old WoW guild members were playing… Thanks for the advice though.
