Server Transferring? Friendlier Servers?
I’ve been on Ehmry Bay from day 1, and have to say it’s got to be one of the friendliest groups of any game I’ve ever played with.
Not sure about dungeon runs, I only run them with guild mates, and I spend most of my time in wvw, but in wvw they kind of remind me of a bunch of guys/girls you could go out and have a drink with. Funny most of the time, and hardly anyone complaining when something goes wrong. Usually a dust ourselves off and try a different tactic.
Although we do have some of the loudest forum warriors, though these same people in game are super fun to run with. I just assume they like to rile up our competitors lol
“Stick them with the pointy end.”
Iv been on Gunnar’s Hold EU server since day 1. And this is also a very friendly server. Plenty of people on here jump in to help you out, just wandering around. And if not then just ask in game chat and you will near always get a helper or two.
Iv done a few dungeon runs and had mixed experiences but no big deal just politley leave them to it. Mostly though positive runs and very helpful.
If im really honest here, iv never even remotley had a situation that iv ever thought to myself “this guy is crazy”or “man im leaving this server”.
Maybe its just the way the game is orientated to group play and sharing, but this server always seems busy and friendly.
Also iv never really been placed in an overfow server either. Maybe once or twice earlier on in the game, as its a medium pop server. But like i said plenty of people around on here.
I also have a recent encounter to share with you. I was at the Demongrub JP in Queensdale the other day with my newly run necro, and slightly under leveled i might add.
Another also low lvl necro comes along and we both get killed by them vet oozes in there. So me being me i say to him il return with a higher lvl char and help you out. So i return and complete it with him. Then to my amazment he kindly offers to do exactly the same for me and returns to help my low lvl necro out.
Just one of the many good encounters iv had on here so far!
All servers have a large crowd of friendly people, it just depends on where you look.
I think the main reason as to why the community in Guild wars 2 is so friendly to one another is simply because you’re always encouraging others to lend a helping hand when they’re around, and you tend to do the same, simply because there’s no negative impact on having more people help you tackle certain tasks, where-as in other MMO’s, there is, for example WoW, loot tagging a mob before someone else can cause some hectic verbal abuse, but in GW2, this doesn’t exist.
There’s a much calmer vibe about the gameplay of Guild wars 2 overall, however something i have noticed is that the communities on the more WvWvW orientated servers tend to be a bit more egotistical and verbal than the rest, so if you’re after a friendly server, i would try to steer clear of the T1 WvW servers. (Sorry guys, i’m sure there are a bunch of you on these servers who are incredibly nice, this is just something i have noticed over the months.)

On an overflow server you are getting the kind of people who actively seek out events. While most GW 2 players are friendly it’s probably especially true of people who seek out new group type events.
As for my Server I find plenty of polite, kind generous type folks on Jade Quarry. Surprising as that may be to our WvW opponents.
/n.b. I mostly play PvE for all I know our WvW folks even friendlier.

I’ve been on Tarnished Coast since beta and I find the community to be very friendly. It’s also one of the unofficial RP servers, although there are plenty of non-RPers who make TOast their home. One thing I have noticed is that in general, RP servers tend to have friendlier and more mature people. I don’t pug very often (most runs I do with my guild), but on the rare occasions that I have, the groups have been good and relatively patient with repeated wipes.

i play on NA servers, started on yak’s bend, went to SoR after 1st month of game being released to wvw cause SoR had 100% capped and i got my explorer done by transfering. anyways, long story short experienced some high end WvW guilds probably leading the server in coordinated attacks at that time. but often in my experience the guild has grown soo big it splits off and loses its thunder. sometimes they try to reform but it doesnt work out. next i went to “Blackgate” server and they were on fire at the time fighting with SoS and SoR in tier 1. soo jus my luck Blackgate loses half its community when SoS beat them soo hard for 3 weeks lots of people xfered when it was still free. soo eventually i did too, and went back to my 1st server “Yak’s Bend”. when finding some old friends and guilding with them, we faced dragonband and maguuma servers in tier 3, and after maguuma wiping us with massive zergs, the guild told me to transfer with them to “Maguuma” server. after on and off wvw and pvp i realized something had changed, Maguuma lost its thunder in WvW and Dragonband become the powerhouse. after Maguuma being in 3rd for 2.5 weeks and being on the server for a month or 2, i jus like before i felt the server had no pve and didnt have strong enough WvW zergs anymore. i decided to transfer to SoS, thinking it would bring me back to tier 1 WvW when really SoS had fallen down to Tier 4, and i was stuck there for awhile, found a friend from yaks bend, and guilded and did wvw for a time untill realizing SoS had the worst defense with lack of seige. i went hardcore into sPvP for a time, then realized i wanted to be fighting back in Tier 1 WvW like i had hoped SoS was checking an old post about it still being Tier 1 when it wasnt updated untill the patch that brought leaderboards for WvW. That was when i xfered back into Tier 1 onto “Jade Quarry” to witness their unstoppable zergs. after a long reign of crushing SoR and BG, SoR. a powerful guild i was in called EMP split in half and transfered to Dragonband, and i didnt follow them. but EMP guild fell apart and still has some old members left, but JQ didnt stop winning in Tier 1. Unfortunately after 2 weeks BG had a come back and took 1st place for 1 week. then SoR hired 2 strong guilds called “warmachine” and “IRON”, which had some decent zerg breakers that made SoR server the powerhouse with zerging. BG has better fighters and can take out big enemy zergs, but now SoR is dominating both servers and BG is stronger then JQ right now, and JQ cant get anything done after today Server Reset cause on 3 different borders i played on, my team zergs were getting completely wiped even though the border was full. and quickly people lost hope after only 2 hours. i fear JQ has lots its thunder in Tier. it still has those great commanders that keep the server allive, but the way its been it seems the server has a stronger PvE then WvW. but even soo it seems like people rather would sit around town then do PvE events and dungeons. soo im stuck feeling like the server doesnt have it anymore. but i did get to experience a few of these server’s Rise and Falls of popularity. i even feel like after some placed i had left it become popular again but still it remains in their tier. i feel that SoR and BG at this time will remain in Tier for a lonnng time and JQ might fall down a tier in another 2 weeks. and im goin on vacation ina week and half soo i wont be missing anything. ive just been looking into EU servers since im also a Late Night player till 5-6 am on weekends. and often NA servers dont have a strong night-crew.
I’m friendly almost all the time. And if I am not, I keep it to myself. But I don’t talk all that much on mapchat normally, I am a bit shy. On an overflow it is easier to be a a little more open and even silly as the people there are strangers and I don’t have to face them the next day if I make a fool of myself.
Another reason why people might socialize with others more is that their friends may be on home server or even on another overflow.
Thanks for all the answers, people. I hope more have something to contribute.
Another vote for Tarnished Coast . Active community in all aspects of the game and the unofficial RP server to boot.
Bottom line, I think, friendly is where you find it. Good luck.
Just a small warning to the OP. I’m on Gandarra and I see the same situation, however, I dont think it has to do with the population on other servers being better. Normally maps are only filled for like 25% of the max capacity. wich is enough to have some nice converstaions and get help if needed, but the amount of talk and therefor the quality is lower off course. Southsun cove has atleast 3-4 overflows at the moment on eu servers, wich means they are all very full. This might give you a wrong impression as well
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I have been playing on Seaferer’s Rest for 8 months and I gotta say most people tend to be nice and helpful. Yesterday I was playing with a new character on Caledon Forest and the Champion Naga group event was active. I noticed two other players in the area and we immediately teamed up, even so the Naga was too strong for only 3 players. I asked for help in the map chat and seconds later there was an army of 9 or 10 players! So yeah, Seaferer’s Rest in my opinion is pretty good!

For NA servers, Jade Quarry and Tarnished Coast I believe are the most popular PvE servers. You’ll also find that both have great WvW players too. For a friendly server, simply guest and see for yourself. That’s what guesting is for, to explore all of the other servers.
If you’re thinking about transferring servers for any reason I’d recommend guesting on the server you’re thinking of transferring to for a while first.
Guesting is completely free, you can do it as many times as you want and for as long as you want and can do everything exactly as if you were on that forum, except play WvW.
That way you can make sure the new server is right for you and will only need to transfer once.

I vote for Gunnar’s Hold too- It has been my home since the 2nd BWE.
I chose it initially because it had a concentration of more mature players and as such I expected to see less trolling,.
In all my time I have never really seen a bad apple, people are all over the maps even though we are medium pop.
The people are very friendly and helpful and surprisingly chatty.
Lots of jokes and general chat flying about- the other day people were wishing each other happy b-day
We seem to have many new players as well as veterans and whenever a new person asks a question in map chat you will have many responses immediately.
No problems in finding people to help with things- just link it and it is done.
I usually notice i’m in overflow when the map chat deteriorates and gets less friendly.
Alright, thanks everyone.
Still hoping someone on my server would come and say their experiences too though.. but mentioning what server that is would possibly alter the answer of someone.
Thanks for the suggestion of guesting; it was kind of also guesting that made me wonder though, because I had to guest a bit during the Flame and Frost event, and people seemed nicer but it might just be a coincidence.
Hi,
I’ve played on Stormbluff Isle for the first 5 months, Isle of Janthir for the next three months, and now Dragonbrand for a little under a month.
Stormbluff was very friendly back in the day, populated, and full. Probably an all around good server, semi -decent in WvW without being over-elitist maybe? Although I did hear that they tell anyone with a commander tag to turn it off with others are using it. IMO, I will use my commander tag whenever I want since I earned it(although I dont have it yet nor actively trying to acquire).
Isle of Janthir is where I found the group of players I am playing with now. Pretty friendly, cool WvW folks and rebounding…thus this will generate comradery. However, the server is suffering severe population issues, and from what I hear now it stems into PVE.
Dragonbrand has been decent so far. They take their WvW a bit too serious for their own good, but it shows results. PVE is good, tons of players all over. I haven’t had a problem. The group of players that I ment on IoJ…we moved to dragonbrand and guilded with another group of players. Been fun so far.
…
As you wrote a long text, you obviously want people to read it, too. Just to let you know, I would probably have read it with paragraphs.
I played on Underworld the first few months and now on Dzagonur and would say it’s pretty mixed and I really don’t think there are big differences between the servers. Most people are nice, friendly and helpful.
Just gotta stay away from some “pro-small scaller gvg guys” in WvW and in PvE stay away from the “pro farmers”. Been noticing in Southsun during this event that alot of people will rather do dmg and rush to the next event than ress somebody.
But there are always people who mention where something is going on and will give useful informations if you ask.
I wouldn’t change a server in the hope to find a friendlier community. Much easier to try and find a nice guild with similar interests.
