Are medium pop servers as laggy as high or very high pop servers? Wondering if they increase power/spec on very high to compensate, or if moving to a medium pop server would help reduce lag? Ty

Are you laggy in PVE, PVP, or WVW. Under what conditions.

In my experience, lag can be caused by the speed of the computer or the connection, which will be constant no matter what.

It can also be caused by the number of people around you or on the map. For special events, usually specific PvE areas fill up, so you’ll probably get the same lag no matter which server.

However, if the problem is WvW, a lower population server will probably have less lag because there are fewer people running around but you may still see lag if you are in the middle of a zerg.

Lower pop servers will have less lag in WvW and world boss events, but the lag is still there.

I hear complaints all the time on Ferguson’s Crossing server. But I’m sure it is a lot worse on more populated servers such as Tarnished Coast.

My suggestion, try guesting to a low pop server and do some world boss events. You can’t WvW, but the world boss events will definately show you if the lag is just as bad.

And if WvW is your main thing, then I would suggest a lower population server anyways as the lag and especially skill lag will always be at least a little better on these servers.

FC and TC are NA area and high or very high I think. I’m EU and we actually have some servers at medium.

I can play for hours with no trouble but come evening there’s definite lag between key-press and visual. Sometimes I it’s just that gap… but other times it’s like the whole game hesitates for over 5 seconds, then suddenly goes mad and catches up. I’m learning when it’s at it’s worst to keep pressing keys even when I can’t see anything happening just to stay alive. I’m on a high pop EU server atm.

mostly pve is not too bad except for peak hours, but really really bad in living story content most of the time. I’m not high enough level for much more yet. I have tried wvw twice but that was impossible so haven’t tried since.

Sounds like bad skill lag due to the volume of players around you.

A lower population server might help a little, but stuff like the living story content will still be crowded and you will still experience this issue I believe.

Only suggestion there is to guest to one of these medium servers and see how it is in the PvE areas during the living story. You should have your answer as to whether it is better or not soon enough.

Turning down some of the settings of your system MAY help too.

Settings have been tried way low to the detriment of the look of the game but didn’t help when it was bad. I’ll take the suggestion to try guesting for living story see if it’s any different.
