Should I play on patch day?
There are usually way too many people in the zones :P But I’ve not seen many server crashes due to the awesome overflows.
Patch days are usually quite stable here actually, should be no problem.
I will be. It’s as simple as load patch and play here.
You get an ingame message that a new build is ready, log out (or the system logs you out after a set time), download the patch (couple minutes), log back in and you’re good to go
ANet has this patch thing down to a fine science. A thing of beauty that other games wish to emaluate.
After WOW maintenance days it’s really nice playing an MMO where there’s no such thing. All you do is download the patch and you’re ready to go. So far we’ve not had any stability issues caused by patches, even when everybody in the game went to the crab zone at the same time.
Well, they are restarting again. Emergency patch to fix the emergency patch.
And yet another emergency patch. I’m losing faith.
With Guild Wars 2, you’re not really running any risk. However, there will be bumps and snags along the way, it’s very difficult to get such a game to not have any bugs during patches because so many things affect other things; it’s like a domino effect.
You change one thing here, it changes something over there; fixing that makes something else move. It’s just a mess.
However, I give Anet a lot of credit. I prefer emergency patches over leaving the game offline for 12 hours like other companies.

So have at it, enjoy the game. No reason not to, it’s not like you risk losing something; and you can read the bugs on the forums.

I seemed to get disconnected a lot when downloading the patch last night, but that might be because I was online when the patch went live whereas normally I’m coming on after it’s been up for a little while, so I think it was just the sheer number of people trying to download the patch.
But it wasn’t a problem, I just set it running and went and had my shower. When I got out the patch had downloaded. (It automatically reconnects if it gets disconnected.)
