My highest level character is currently 43, and he’s an engineer. I love the class, love its unique feel and love the game but everything I’ve been reading on these and other forums suggests that the engineer as a class is lost and has no real purpose, doesn’t really bring anything to the table etc. I’m aware of its “jack-of-all trades” feel, but what I read is pretty depressing even given that fact.

I’m at the point in PvE leveling, as well, where I’m starting to watch warriors (literally) spin around in circles through 3 or 4 mobs and mow them down, while I need to carefully battle plan for every situation, pulling 1 at a time and have to expend significant effort evading and being tactical if I want to succeed in a difficult situation (which I love doing, but it gets discouraging when other classes make it look so easy).

I’m also saving WvW and other pvp for 80 when I can really sink my teeth into it, so I have no idea how the class performs in that regard.

Basically, from what I’ve read and observed, my class of choice seems to be pretty futile right now. Should I consider a change and quit while I’m ahead?

i’m pretty sure people complain about what ever class gets nerfed anyways, if you really enjoy being an engineer, then stay as an engineer

engineers might have gotten a nerf this month but anet keeps changing the way skills work on every class, so you might get a buff next month

Gwaiyn – 80 Thief
Ryfaul – 80 Warrior
Fluene – 80 Mesmer

Don’t switch if you enjoy it!
By all means, if a nerf sets people back it wasn’t their profession in the first place.

If you seriously enjoy playing engineer, i don’t even see a problem for PvE or WvW.

PvE: Alot of complaints in PvE would just be a total setback, i don’t see a super high bar of requirements for anything even fractals.
But there really isn’t, how can making 5% more damage make a huge difference?
You’re all going to down it eventually, but the question is will you enjoy it?

WvW:
The only reason would be skirmishing, but in the end the bigger zerg wins.
They have plenty of utilities and i haven’t come across an engineer that had any problem with 1v1ing if they know what’s going on.
If it’s Spvp you want you can always switch to another profession by all means necessary,

They’re all 80 in the mists.

If you like the class stay with it, don’t let your enjoyment be ruined by the forums or warriors :P
Seriously I know what you mean by planning every battle since my main is a Mesmer. It is one of the things I love most about how the class plays. I have a level 10 warrior but honestly player her fells as boring as watching paint dry.

So stick with what you like.- Can’t go wrong there

If it helps most warriors are forced to use rifles in WvW. Greatswords have high burst damage but not sustained. Engineers can use Elixir S to avoid all damage for 3 sec.

BTW if you want to easily win in PvE, i recommend the Bomb Kit.

Edit: oh and in dungeons, most sub bosses can 1 hit KO as well so melee is less viable.
