Should i get rid of my level 45 ele? i honestly started out loving the profession but then it became an EXTREMELY boring grind and a very weak profession to play. I tried every weapon combo that is possible but im just bored with the profession. But i dont want to get rid of something that took alot of work on my end. what should i do?

When built and played right, an ele can be as tough as nails and capable of soloing a lot of group content, from open-world champions to dungeons. If you’re worried about being squishy, hopefully that clarifies a bit. They are also capable of stacking massive amounts of might and fury on allies while putting out high damage.

That being said, don’t ever force yourself to play a class you don’t like- you’ll just wind up miserable in the long run. If you have room, you can leave the ele and play something else in the meantime, and return to the ele if you ever feel like it. I had to do that myself with my mesmer. I wanted to like mesmer very badly and put a lot of work into mine, but it never clicked and I often got frustrated. The knowledge of playing mesmer had to trickle in bit by bit, as I would play it and then leave it for long stretches- eventually, though, it finally clicked, and now it’s my second favorite class.

I’ve never leveled an Ele all that high, but one rule of thumb that I go by is that if I happen to hit a boring/frustrating stretch on a new profession (this has happened with a couple of my toons around the mid-levels), I bump up that toon by about 10-20 levels via crafting, then try again with the new skills and traits available by then. I also play around a bit with different builds to see if I’m missing out on something that could make my character more effective. All this inspired me to finally level my Engineer to cap, which is a very fun class but can also be frustrating to level and trait effectively.

Do you need the character slot for anything else? If not you could always just stop playing them for a bit but leave them there. That way if you change your mind later you can pick up where you left off.

If a class or character isn’t meshing well for me between level 30 to 50 then I feel that I gave them a fair shot and can delete them with no hard feelings or much time lost. If your ele isn’t working for you then give them up.

I hate to admit it but I deleted a LVL 66 Theif only because I didn’t like the Sylvari story nor how she looked. Very shallow, I know. I replaced her with a Human Thief that I have since raised to 80. My only regret is that at the time, she had about 80K karma that I lost.

Up to you if you want to delete or not.

Need the character slot? Delete.

Eles can be real tough. A guildie is an Ele and has more toughness than I can shake a stick at. He never goes down. One tough cookie. Eles have a very high skill ceiling. But if you are bored with the class, they are probably not for you.

Some classes don’t seem to peek until 80. My mesmer was real slow to level and didn’t become extremely fun until 80. At 80, she is a blast.

Honestly i would set it aside for a while and grab a new class to level up for a while then when you come back to it it will feel fresher than before .

My first character was an ele. I was playing it with someone I knew from gw1 who did the same. We where both very newbe to the world of gw2. I was learning to dodge, but most of the times he stood still and had some harder times learning this game (wich is ok). but he also had the irritating habbit to acutally dodge backwards, when i would be at 10% health and wa shiding behind his back. So basicly I got slightly irritated and tried to explain more bout the dodge mechanic, but we had a fall out. To not hurt feeling too much I lied a lil bit and said I had enough for ele’s and wanted a different class (making sure to tell him after level 15 so it was ‘hard’ to follow . I did make an engineer. My reasoning was that if I wanted to play with a stationary turret (like my friend was acting as) I better go for that.

I had a lot of joy and pleasure playing the engineer and finished that one first. later on I went back and borught the ele to level 80 as well. I re found my love of the ele and actually play her more often then I now play my engineer.

Bottom line: ele’s are very awesome, but not for beginning players. I would advise to not delete your ele, cause you will likely find the same love again in the future, but do start a new character and concentrate on that one.

A significant part of the elementalist’s viability is in the traits, as these can radically enhance certain categories of your skills (e.g. auras, signets, cantrips). At level 45, you only have half of your trait points, and you do not have access to Grandmaster level traits yet, which severely hampers your effectiveness. When you approach level 80, you will notice that many traits all boost the same things, making those things very good indeed.
(As an example, it is possible to boost your Signet utility skills to such lengths that activating them will give you and nearby allies a Fire Shield, Protection, Swiftness and Vigor, in addition to whatever the Signet does on its own. Meanwhile, a minor trait will also boost your damage output by 2% for each boon you have, and this effect just gave you 3 boons.)

Also important for lower-level elementalists is to update your gear frequently – especially your weapons – and to learn to dodge effectively, as this will greatly enhance your effectiveness.

True on all points. My first character on this game was my elementalist, and I definitely felt that the learning curve on it was steep until I found my comfort zone. I had tried all the weapon combos before finally settling on staff. I hated double daggers, scepter/dagger didn’t give me enough crowd control, and I didn’t like focus as an offhand. I’m aware that S/D is probably the best all-around choice of weapons for eles, but I prefer having the range, AoE, and versatility that staff provides. Now that I’m fully traited and such, I can stack might simply by using my fire skills, gain more boons when I switch attunements, and thanks to my gear provide aegis for myself and allies when using my elite.

I played some of my alts to take a break from the main on a few occasions, but I’m so glad I stuck with my elementalist.

This is good advice. If you have open slots available, do this rather than just delete the character.

As an Ele main, I’d say drop it based on what you were saying. Not because they’re bad, like people said they’re tough as nails when played right, but that’s the issue, playing them right.

Ele can be much more unforgiving (not necessarily harder) if you screw something up, as you are expected to utilise all attunements and make them synergise with one another. Not like my warrior which can just charge in with 5 and 2 them to death.

If you’re not liking the Ele, try learning the synergies, like grabbing a staff (just an example) and churning earth your lava pools. Try maybe 5-6 levels worth of questing with your new found play style and re-evaluate your position. If you find this play style keeps you infuriated then you are NOT going to like the class at 80.

Hope it helps.

I say buy 3 more character slots and have one of each proffesion. Its what I did…though now I have 11 slots, so I have some doubles.
