Showing your weapons when idle?
You can bind a key to sheath/unsheath. I dunno about keeping them out full time though.
What you are seeing is a temporary bug.
As mentioned above, the animation confusion is a bug and I think they just corrected it (haven’t tested).
I tested the “Sheath / Unsheath” function last night and while it DOES put your weapons away, it does NOT take you out of combat mode (still have the gold smoke above your endurance bars and you still run slower and jump shorter). I tested it with active enemies in range and not during one of those instances where you “stuck” in the combat mode, so it MIGHT take you out of that (when you wold want to use it anyway).

I’m not talking about sheathe/unsheathe, as using that will simply put you in a combat stance, but your character will put the weapons away again after about 20 seconds if not fighting anything.
I figured it was probably a bug or trick involved to it, but I’m not sure if Anet considers it anything seriously worthy of fixing.
This has to do with the new anti-culling thing. (Almost) Everyones weapons is out in there hand at all times during their idle animation. It’s kind of annoying. I messed around with my settings and it still stayed like that.
