Newish player looking for info or guides on throwing sigils/upgrades into the mystic forge. Is there any rhyme/reason, or is it just random luck?

I used to do this in hopes of getting the Superior sigil I need for the legendary I was going after, but so many of the Superior sigils are worthless and even soulbound on acquire that I decided against it and just sold them all. I didn’t have very much luck with it, a few nice ones out of many many tries.

I suppose if you manage to get something worth a gold or so, it’d be worth it assuming you get one within 25 uses of the forge. [I’m approximating an average of 3-4s per Major sigil here]

Overall I wouldn’t do it, I’ve thrown away so many that I could’ve just sold and probably lost money instead. But that may just be my experience

The mystic forge can be used for two things.
a: garanteed recipes. You through in a bunch of items in a certain combination and you know what your going to get.
b: Gamble

I never recommend b unless you are making a precursor. The amount of times you get something good out of the forge isnt worth the amount of things your wasting.

(small note, there is one mix form that is eaaceptablew, and that is when making the mystic clovers for a legendary. it is a gamble, but a very solid one).

Very good to know. So what about minor sigils then? Worth bothering with?

Personally, I don’t bother with minor sigils.

I do, however, throw in my extra major sigils. You will have about a 20% chance for an upgrade to a random superior sigil. Sometimes you hit the jackpot. SOmetimes you get a superior sigil that isn’t worth it’s face value and Zommoros laughs at you.

I usually have extra sigils/runes from salvaging rares for ectos. This is what I do with them.

I usually throw major sigils/runes in there only if they would otherwise sell for less than the average price of major sigils/runes (around 4s) that way I sell if it gives more, randomize it if it would give less. what comes out of the forge I do the same. I recently put 4 sigils worth 2.6s each into the forge and got a superior sigil of bloodlust (worth 5g) back. every now and then it will more than make up for all the majors you got up until that point.
