Should I be a Guardian, or Elementalist? Will typically be doing pve or pvp. I’ve heard elementalists are jack of all trades, but I kind of think a guardian could maybe fill that role as well. If not, why? I want to have options of weapons to choose from.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Alright, so my friend has an elementalist and we both sometimes do some random roaming, would we be ineffective if we were both just elementalists, or would we both do a lot better with me as a guardian?

An elementalist cannot swap the weapons during combat, but has attunements.
A guardian can swap them.

Here is a chart which weapons can be used by each profession:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Weapon

A guardian can have 11 different weapons, an elementalist 5.

I would suggest try both and stick to that character that fits you the most.
You can also create a character, do the pve tutorial (starter zone), and then go to the pvp lobby (heart of the mists) and then you will be upscaled to lvl 80 and able to test everything.

Good luck!

I like combination of professions during leveling.
My bf and me had a very tricky time as we were leveling our elementalists (it was around lvl 60 or so) together.

But you should be able to do it as well with the same professions as with different. Just do whatever you want to and have fun!

Well elementalist can go full support and dps….like maxi g ur water trait and arcane trait can be great for survival bit guardians have lots of weapon skill and utilities that gives boons which can be also beneficial. So basically ele + ele = awesome and ele + guardian = also awesome…..me and my friend run ele and guardian myself…lots of attack buffs from guardians staff makes my friend ele really strong. U and ur friend can go both d/d (dagger/dagger) elementalists and do insane damage out put if u like that to or just all healing for survivability

If you will be primarily leveling with a friend who is an ele, it would be a good idea to go the Guardian route to have access to a wider variety of skills.

What if I were to run a warrior? I’ve heard somewhat bad things about them, but still. I’m not talking greatsword, I don’t really want to do that, but say sword or shield or something. In comparison to a guardian with my friend still being a ele, what would be a better combo?

Guardians are generally good all round; good heals, good buffs, decent damage, decent armor, decent aoe, decent amount of combo fields and finishers.

Warriors are currently very good at handling pve content. In my opinion they are one of the top solo classes in the game, but don’t offer as much group utility unless you spec them down a path that encourages it. If you are going to primarily running with others and want to be effective at support, I suggest Guardian over Warrior. If you want to kill stuff quickly, and survive a ton of punishment without the need for a group, I suggest warrior, although guardians also have very good survivability.

So your choice. Lone wolf killer type? Warrior. Group support survivability? Guardian
