I think I know the answer but wanted to confirm before I updated the wiki.

Post level 80, are you granted a skill point each time you fill the experience bar? Or do you have to fill it up a few times for a skill point?

You get a skill point each time you fill up the bar. Doesn’t matter whether you’re lvl 1, 10, or 80.

Are you sure? I know you get a trait point each time you level, but I didn’t think you got a skill point as well.

Yes, you get a skill point each time you level up, as well as a trait point starting at level 11.

Pretty certain you don’t get trait points past 80, but you still get skill points. I’ve collected about 30 since hitting 80.

I am not gaining skill points as I level after 80.. the bar keeps rolling over, but no new skill points are added. Do you have to do something special to get them?

I have gained new skill points for every level over 80.

Currently sitting at nearly 150 skill points in excess (not all from leveling, there are more skill challenges than needed to get all skills).

I have heard others in map chat say they have even more. It is also said that you need to spend skill points in some awesome recipes.

Are you sure you are not confusing skill points with trait points? You stop gaining trait points once you reach 80 but continue to recieve skill points.

To the OP and others who are confused, you stop getting trait points once you reach 80, since you only get it when you level up.

However, you continue to receive skill points everytime you fill your EXP bar. Now before anyone asks “where are we going to use those excess skill points” – you’ll be surprised that ANet already have a plan for it. That’s how it was in GW1.

Yes I meant 80 haha. I keep typing 50 when I mean 80 (this is third time I have done it).

It’s already working, you use them to craft exotics.

Oh, there we go, there is already use for those extra skill points. (I was hoping new skills like in GW1 haha :p or new weapons with new skills)

got almost 80 after hitting 80…

Yes, I mean skill points. Not trait points. I am trying to purchase items from the vendors mentioned. I have dinged 80 5 times and have not gotten a single extra skill point. I have 4 skill points that I have received from skill challenges and that is it. I would submit a ticket, however, with the way their support is overloaded with hacked accounts, it is difficult to get any assistance. I have since taken to working on alts.

Submit a ticket anyway, that will put you in the queue and they will get around to it eventually.

They are still prioritising hacked accounts submitted in the right way. So you submitting a ticket will not prevent hacked accounts being address by support.
