Skill points hard cap?
I don’t think you should ever let your extra skill points go over 339 (in case you suddenly want a legendary, for that fateful day a precursor drops). Skillpoints are too valuable when converted to gold to just hoard.
However I’m sure there are the super rich who have more gold and skillpoints than they need, and it would be interesting to see how many points they might have accumulated.
How can you convert skill points to gold?
I don’t think there’s a hard cap, at least I’ve never seen anyone mention one. I’ve got well over 300 on my main character (most of which will be going towards a legendary) and I’ve heard of some people having over 600.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I’m sure there is some hard cap number, but I’m betting only an Anet coder has that knowledge. I’d be interested in seeing anyone with 5 digit amount. I’m going to go out on a limb and say it’s likely 64k (16 bits).
Skill points to gold usually involve Mystic Forge recipes. Promotion of materials and forging of Exotic items for sale on the TP. Google it and you can find some info (be careful as it might be out of date….material promotion requires savvy and up to date market knowledge to actually make money).

that’s not a bad calculator. although it is missing the refined basic materials, which often are a better profit than raw materials (upgrading bronze ingot to iron ingot is often ~2g/SP)

Hmmn, that’s true. I’m sending the current site’s dev a note about it.
1180 on my necro, 600+ on my Ele and didn’t know I could convert anything to gold but gems and loot. But if it’s all mystic toilet stuff then I guess I’ll keep accumulating them until they have a serious use to me.
doesn’t hurt to hold onto them. you might want to make 4 legendaries in the future.
one of the problems with converting SP to gold is that the highest exchange rates are also the slowest. bronze → iron ingot might get 2g/SP, but it also requires buying 100 stacks of bronze ingots (25,000 ingots), then selling 32 stacks of iron ingots, all to consume 20 SP for 40g profit. The time required might make it less rewarding than running dungeons.
It’s a good idea to hold onto SP in case you need them. Since there’s no cap, you have nothing to worry about.
