Slow Down in Combat
Let me beat on you for a little bit then you tell me how fast you move.
I think it’s exactly to prevent that… you running away from combat like nothing is going on. Well guess what, there’s combat going on and if you want to run away you’ll have to put some effort into that.
If you’re in the middle of a battle, taking damage, etc, I understand the slow down, but it happens even when you’re just running past a mob that you happen to agro, and nothing hits you. It’s kind of annoying.
I dont think anyone want to fight when you are alone and 30 invader at your back. In Pve I dont care If I slow down, because there are only mobs. However in WvW…

Eh no? I’ve been running happily past mobs, all you’ve got to do is evade their attacks. If you got slowed “something” hit you. If you didn’t notice that, it was either not clear enough or maybe there’s some kind of bug somewhere somehow.

Yep, so you’ve got to watch out not getting into their range in the first place, or just make sure you’re not alone. It only makes sense to me that if they’re given the opportunity to engage on you, you shouldn’t be able to run off easily.

I think those 30 invaders want to fight.

Eh yes. Maybe it’s a bug, but it happens. Thanks though.
Why am I slow down in combat? It’s really irritating when I’m trying to run away from 30 players in WvW. Why arenanet put this in the game and what kind of thing they wanted to prevent?
It’s to prevent you from being able to run away from 30 players in WvW. In a situation like that, ArenaNet wants you to die.

Have you considered that while running beside them you caused damage and thus initiated the combat? (Necro speed buff does damage nearby mobs for example.)
I’d like to know why the kitten combat slows you down if people have snares that they can use for that purpose.

Why don’t you assume the opposite?
“Why do you speed up when you’re out of combat if people have speed buffs that they can use for that purpose?”
maybe this is to prevent ppl agroing a lot of mobs and dropping them upon others
I don’t mind being slowed down if I get it.. but staying in combat stance for a long time because of a single debuff is stupid as hell(30s+ cripple, poison, whatever)..

In PvE it might be frustrating. But in PvP and WvW I would like my long conditions not to disappear from someone just because he has more speed buffs.

Eh, yes ? I get the same thing. To clear it up a bit, it’s when you enter into “battle mode”, you know when you cant change weapons. Well ye, my guy slows slightly down, hasn’t been hit at all. I just dropped ArenaNet a bug report, lets see what they say. Glaring example, as a mesmer we get a speed boon ability, I put it down, I run through, a friendly also runs through, we both haven’t been hit, but yet he runs slightly faster than me. Everyone does this past me. As soon as I get out of battle mode, I start running faster again.
EQ2 implemented something similar to prevent people from kiting. I don’t remember this being an issue originally, but now I do notice it. It is as if they enabled it since early release.

You only slow down if you hit/is hit by something.

Eh no, never happned to me, if the mob doesn’t hit me, I don’t get slowed down to normal run speed, I can run past mobs aggro the entire zone and still run full speed plus the 25% signet speed unless something actually damages me.
as others have stated you get only slowed if something hit you, or if you attacked.
to break out of pvp battles you need to equip skills that let you flee beforehand. stuff that gives swiftness, teleports you, makes you invisible etc.
to be actually able to use that skill without getting slowed/etc. you need to premeditate combat and learn to tell when the tide’s coming your way. that’s when you disengage and start running. don’t let them come into range.
As far as I can tell, it isn’t a question of slowing down in combat. You slow down when you have weapons in hand. Ever tried running with your hands full? I am both a re-enactor & a practitioner of Medieval Martial Arts. Trust me, you will not run quite as quickly with big lumps of metal / wood in your hands as you will without!
I found I have to stow my pet as a ranger if I’m going to barrel through some place, because my pet getting hit triggers the slow down. I’m not sure if that also happens with Mesmer and Necro pets.
As an aside, I also stow my pet when I see someone dragging a train toward me, because they always peel off and aggro the pet. It would be nice if the folks running through an area were a little more aware of how their aggro impacts the people fighting in an area. If you don’t want to fight those mobs, what makes you think I want to?
It’s so frustrating when I’ve got a veteran almost dead and someone drags a bunch of fresh mobs down on me so they can tag it before it dies and then just keeps running. I wish there were more aggro management tools available. The only way I know of to reliably drop aggro as a ranger is if I’m downed and I’ve traited for camouflage :/

I have to agree. I find that it makes combat feel clumsy combined with slow camera turning, even with settings set to maximum. In my opinion these are the only two things that are holding pvp greatness back for me with this game.

This would make sense if the attackers weren’t slowed themselves as well.
