Honestly, I never would have posted anything, but this really got to me today. As a small guild leader of 18, and a guild level of 25, we aren’t really even on the radar for anyone, but we have worked hard to achieve what we have already done. As a smaller guild we do ask for help in open map from time to time with missions from others, and usually there is always a good response, especially from members of larger guilds, but sometimes things don’t go as planned. Today seemed to be the worst it has gotten.

Today, I decided to run a low level bounty, I knew I couldn’t do it on my own, so I did what we normally do and posted in map chat. This has always worked in the past for us. Today though, things went differently. Today I was berated by fellow players just for asking.

“Why would you do that to your guild members, Why can’t you all get on to do it together, All you are doing is taking the chances away from them, Why would you be with such a bad guild if you have no one to help you, Trashy guilds like that should be banned, Why don’t you get with a real guild who is worth it?”… Each time I tried to answer or explain, I just got hammered again, which to me was a bit rude. Normally the rudeness of others doesn’t bother me, and normally I would have blasted back at the person, but nothing I said mattered and the comments about our guild really hit home.

We all have our own reasons for our guilds, some for simple reasons, others for very personal reasons, but there is always a reason of some sort. We help others if and when we can, and only ask others if we truly can’t do it on our own. Our guild was founded by a very kind and helpful man, both in game and in RL. Sadly tho, he died a couple months before GW2’s first anniversary. He was a role model and adopted father to me, as well as a godfather to 2 of my children. We chose to continue to work the guild in his name, and do our best to make it flourish. Most of our members are either family or very close friends, 7 of whom live in the same home. So to be called a trashy or bad guild is very insulting, we do our best to work hard at it. We aren’t always able to be in game, either from working long hours or school or sleep even, but still we try and do our best. Not being able to be there as a guild often means we have to be creative to get stuff done, missions completed, upgrades finished, etc.

There are many small guilds, like ours, that try, and yes even some that fail, but we, as a guild, commend you all for the effort you have put in. We, as a guild, will still push forward, and will reach top guild level someday, with a master scribe even (that may take some time tho). None the less, I plan to keep trying, and keeping working hard for my guild. I will not give up, neither will my small guild of so few.

I’ve dumped insane amounts of money in to my guild hall because I have a guild of 20 total people myself. We run small WvW roaming stuff and we already had our guild buffs for like +5 supply and such before they integrated the guild halls – but yet I am stuck having to do it again and spend THOUSANDS of gold to get back what I already had before.

So yeah, I feel your pain. They don’t care about our small groups, they want us to become a part of something bigger or spend all of our gold for not wanting to do what they want us to do.

Its easy for larger guilds, with so many putting in the mats, the cost to each member is low, but yes, for us smaller guilds, we put in more time and money just to make it work… Just to get to level 25, countless hours of farming events for mats, buying gems just to convert to gold for that little extra needed when you fall short for an upgrade, all mats going into guild hall instead of armor and weapon upgrades… its harder for a small guild to do it, but it can be done… Not too mention all the account bound purchases that have to be done since a small guild doesn’t have the capacity of players… Either way we look at it, so many look down on the smaller guilds but don’t take the time to look and see what they actually do compared to the larger guilds.

First of all, I’m pretty sure you ran into a troll. Don’t waste any further thoughts on him, that kitten is simply not worth it.
About small guilds having problems building their hall and upgrades- yeah, I feel you. I’m in a tiny guild myself (in fact the only active players are only my wife and myself and from time to time a friend of us, but we try to keep it alive for very similar reasons than you are), yet we managed to get our guild hall and pushed our guild level to 10.
But we’re fine with it and consider upgrading our hall as a loooooong time goal and are in now way in a hurry. Other zerg-sized guilds already hit the level cap? Nice for them, but I don’t see any real advantages they have from it. As long as we’re having fun playing it’s all good.

Usually Trolls don’t bother me, but something about what was said this time did… Either way, it doesn’t matter anymore, we are continuing to build our little guild and in the end we will feel more accomplished for it because we did it… We understand what its like to not have many on to help, its mainly 4 or 5 of our guild, the rest are either part of other guilds, or never online… The most we ever have in game at one time is 5 members, but its usually 1 or 2 at a time… still tho, reaching level 10 is great and my congrats for you, you will be very impressed and amazed when you are able to unlock and finish “second tier” upgrades, our first one made us push harder… Good Luck!!!

Man! Map chat on your server doesnt sound pleasent, but to be honest I cant say its been much better on my server lately, but there is one thing I want to share, there are allot of selfish players around but thats in general of mmorpgs lately, however there are also many people jump into this game never knowing much about guilds and such, this is why everyone needs to understand the rules.

I am truly sorry to hear about your friend.

Now I know your guild isnt like this but this but this is something many people should apply in guilds that ive noticed actually dont do, you can still be laid back and casual with the simple rules im going to list. If I ran a guild I would of some rules like this, basically help the guild and help each other, the guild is helping you so you do need to help your guild. If they do not ever comply then you send an email asking to cooperate a bit more, then if they still dont you give the boot.

Also what day do you guys do guild missions? Id be happy to help out, seriously I have plenty of guild slots.

Hey NosShark,

I’m also a founder of a small guild (currently sitting at like 25 members) and I completely feel your pain. I’m sorry you had such an encounter, people will be people, live and let live, don’t let the trolls get to you. You’ve already come a long way with your guild and I’m sure you’ll go ever further. I’m very sorry to hear about your friend but I’m confident that he’d be proud of what you are doing in-game to continue his legacy.

Stay strong, friend.

I feel the pain from everyone in the thread that i have read through so far because i too am part of a small guild, we currently have 14 members in our guild and managed to get to level 9 recently. We had to use LFG to capture our guild hall as our other members either dont help or aren’t online when we are. For us to upgrade too it has been hundreds of gold and crafting supplies and farming from I’d say a max of 5 players which are all family members as its myself, my husband, his brother, his sister and his aunt that contribute towards everything we have needed so far.

it is a mission at times to complete the missions given to earn favour or just in general have fun as a guild and when you put recruitment messages in map chat the response isnt always one of the nicest as people sometimes just dont care that there are still small guilds out there trying to make a name for themselves. But the main thing is as long as you have fun with your guild and when you finally reach the cap you can proudly say that you made it as small as the guild is i think that is worth something for us small guilds out there…

The concept of server doesn’t really apply for PvE anymore with the Megaserver system.

I have the same problem when asking for help claiming my guild hall (as my guild is only 11 people but only me and my wife are the only ones that are really active) ive been told to quit my guild and to join a bigger one but why should we have to do that and become a number when in a small guild you can get to know the people that you play with and my guild is like most small guilds consisting of friends and family . Anet does need to do something for the smaller guilds like Daddicus.6128 said a LFG feature so small guilds can band together to help each other out with missions, bountys ect would be perfect

We would love the help, our biggest issue we face tho is unstable work schedules which makes it very hard to plan any day to run missions, that’s what I mean by the whole being creative lol, most often its me alone, or maybe someone else, sometimes we are able to have 2 online, and if we are really lucky we might get 3 to 4 at one time, extremely rare lol… There have been so many times we have had to scrap the idea of making a run of it just because someone or multiples got off work late or got called in, etc… There are so many missions we aren’t able to do that most often we may get only one done in a week, if we are lucky… In fact, just checked to see and we have only completed one mission in 4 weeks… yep that is sad… lol

I would like to thank everyone for their responses… It means alot, not only to me, but to us all, all small guilds… We all work hard to achieve what we have done, pushing forward, making it work… I agree, we do need our own LFG, it would help us out alot… until then though, we need to stick together, help each other and other small guilds the best we can, show them we are here to stay, we aren’t backing down!!!

Until we can find a final solution to our collective issues, we still have the ability to track each other down in game, though servers might be an issue from time to time, I honestly think we can work around it…

One of our biggest issues we are facing right now is the ability to get aetherium, it’s what has us at a stand still in our guild, missions are the only way to get it, and without people, missions are mostly improbable, though not entirely impossible…

As time goes, we will figure out more solutions to our issues…

The solution is pretty simple. Just do the guild treks when they come up.
1 person for easy treks
2 people for medium treks
4 people for hard treks

Medium and hard treks are potentially doable with 1 less person but that can cut things very close. We failed a hard trek a couple weeks ago with 3 people by about 30 seconds. >_<

The easy bounty is also an option. You have a 1 in 3 chance of getting Trillia and she is very easy.

That is not aetherium. Aetherium acculates over time from having the mine. Favor is what you get from guild missions and … see above.

There are also the WvW Protect the Dulyak missions, which only take 3 people on easy, medium and even hard, they just go up in amount of times to protect and time frame isn’t too bad either, its one we usually do if we get a chance…

Aetherium is very unlikely to be an issue unless someone is planning on throwing a lot of money at the material requirements of the other upgrades and if that is the case they should send some of that towards the mining rate upgrades. If there isn’t someone planning that then more often than not you’ll have aetherium sitting at max capacity but with insufficient resources to get any upgrades.

There are also the WvW Protect the Dulyak missions, which only take 3 people on easy, medium and even hard, they just go up in amount of times to protect and time frame isn’t too bad either, its one we usually do if we get a chance…

If you happen to be in a guild that enjoys all game modes that is fine but otherwise setting it to PvE only tends to be less risky. The 3 people minimum requirement can also a bit of a problem.

I totally do not understand the whole story.

How does the “Why would you do that to your guild members? Why can’t you all get on to do it together? All you are doing is taking the chances away from them?” relate to your story of fellow players berating you. Can you explain what really happened?

Tiny guild isn’t easy, no doubt about that. If you do not have individuals who excel at something (great in making golds) while being really contributive, it will be really difficult. Even in large guilds, there will be many individuals channeling all their funds to make more legendaries (some are like their 10th) and won’t even consider putting a single ecto into the guild hall treasury.

If your issue is only about taking the guild hall, then i just want you to know that it is possible to do with 3 players. It was a bit of a rough work, but after 3 tries we made it. First we spread out that the voice is telling you but realized very fast that it is not possible so we just went all 3 to each location and manage it.
