I ended “Torn form the Sky” at 63% into Gliding Basics IIRC … I just spent an hour in Silverwastes doing around 10 events and my progress is STILL 63%.

If getting XP isn’t how this advances, how does it? The big glowing ‘tick’ by the Mastery is glowing so as far as I can see it’s enabled.

Is Silverwastes not in the “Heart of Maguuma” the mastery XP tooltip says?

I’m finding Masteries a total Mystery!

Silverwastes is a Core Tyria map, so your earned XP there goes towards Core Tyria Masteries. To earn XP towards Gliding, you need to do things in the new Heart of Thorns maps, the Magus Falls area. Verdant Brink, Auric Basin, etc.

The current rule of thumb is that if you can access the map without buying the expansion, xp there will go to core Tyria masteries.

Silverwastes is a Core Tyria map,.

D’oh, see, I said I’d been gone a couple of years.

I thought Orr was the only level 80 stuff in the original game and seeing Silverwastes was 80 I assumed it was HoT.

Was this area in the game from the start? I have literally no memory of ever being there, the 4 level 80s I had not once to my recollection ever saw it.

It was added into the world during the season 2 living story (pre HoT).

Aha!

That’s why I didn’t know it was not HoT, I stopped playing before LS2 and only logged in during 3 of the 8 episodes.

Thanks for at least letting me know hadn’t missed something glaringly obvious in the original game.
