Grinding has DR, even farming nodes, and it seems to be account wide. I use 3 characters to farm nodes in Frostgorge and the DR hits after 1 or 2 cycles. Thats pretty sad.

So no, grinding is pitifully weak a thing to do at 80 due to DR.

Hey dude you are walking into a wall.

For people who don’t have a lot of time to play, doing dailies is a great way to earn karma and gold for yourself. All you have to do is zone into two maps and run around killing things and participating in events. You can go back to the low level areas if you want and it’ll be faster since your gear will be superior. It’s a fairly pain free way to solo content and be active without eating up a lot of your time grinding. Plus you have the entire map to explore so it doesn’t force you into doing just one task.

You can purchase exotic armor with karma from the Temples in Orr, if they are controlled by the pact. Each piece costs 42k karma.

Thanks very much. I googled Temples of Orr and now know everything about them. And 42K is not much. That’s less than 10 dailies worth.

So I’m level 80 and I just read through this guide and I noticed that half the list is “Grind” with some other parts being a grind on the previous grind. I thought this isn’t a grind heavy game…

This thread badly needs to be updated.

There is so much stuff you could do at 80 that does not include grinding, it’s not even funny, but the OP barely takes “the FUN question” into consideration. This is not a guide for players who’ve just hit 80, it’s a guide for people that had 80 in their sights long before reaching it, and have just ran through the lower levels like they’re just “trash levels.”

Explore, do the same stuff you’ve been skipping over on your route to 80. Just, play. There isn’t anything holding you back anymore, and in fact now that you don’t have to worry about outleveling your gear, it becomes so much less frustrating, less time-consuming. Sooner or later there will be the desire to look upon this list of “endgame items” and realize that there’s still more that could be done. That all comes, basically, after you’re done exploring, wide-eyed, wondering at all the sights.

You’re not committing yourself to a grind simply by hitting level 80, as this thread seems to be suggesting. I suggest you update this thread to be more friendly.

This handbook just sounds like a bunch of grinding…which I have already done to get to this point. Level 80…

I am not trying to be a grinch or complain, but seriously, every game since DAoC just wants you to grind boring PVE crap…

The scary part about this thread is that it is stickied and linked from other threads they closed as if this is evidence of a great end game. This is terrible if this is the actual complete end game, and just like Starfleck above me pointed out, this thread seems to be suggesting that at 80 the game = a full on grind, and devs seem to be ok with that?

I want to see DAoC’s realm ranks and new realm abilities etc. This whole forcing everyone to be on the same level thing is killing the end game. I should be able to either gain skills by subclassing, or gain skills via some sort of WvW currency, or augment my existing skills maybe allowing new or alternate skills to be moved around so say my 2h sword warrior is different playstyle than my brothers 2h sword warrior.

Allow us to somehow add or change or whatever to add some PERSONALITY to the game.

5 hammer/longbow warriors should not be all using the same bow skills (just concentrating on bow as an example)

Let us SUBCLASS darn! If we were talking Longbow ONLY I think at 80 I should have the below options:

1. I want to see warrior/ranger sub gets: better at raining down arrows, maybe a split fan type shot that shoots multiple shots in a frontal arc.

2. Warrior/Thief = More sniper oriented single target bow shots.

3. Warrior/Elementalist = Elemental arrows? Thor’s Fury (shoot an arrow up into the sky after like 2 seconds it comes down with a big spark of lightning), poison cloud shot, etc.

I don’t want to see 5 Hammer/Lonbow warriors using the EXACT same darn skills!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All I seem to be doing at 80 is zerging around in WvW still with way too many people to actually feel like I am personally doing anything, running dungeons I already ran 100 times, farming crap I don’t really want to farm but know I am FORCED to, to unlock Legendaries, and reading these forums wondering when someone that played DAoC on the dev team will implement some cooler WvW stuff….

Sorry if this post upsets anyone but it’s what I feel is the truth.

EDIT:

Oh I forgot, I also participate in these events that I honestly would not participate in if I wasn’t so bored.

Seriously, if I’d rather play a choir bell in a game where you can siege castles and do other amazing things, something is clearly broken and boring at 80.

Edit 2:

We also need NEW WvW maps, I’d like to see a smaller map with entrances for the 3 servers on the outskirts and one castle in the center with actual hallways within the walls to fight small man style in. Some actual good bonus/items/stuff we’d otherwise have to grind for, for holding the center castle.

Delete all that crap about grinding you put into your “guide” and figure out what you can put in it for NEW level 80’s

This isn’t helping anyone!
(you are too hardcore a player to understand from a New 80’s perspective)

You could use screenshots of some beautiful lesser-visited areas. You could use writeups of little dynamic event chains that are funny and interesting. You could tell people something they don’t already know (anyone who’s been 80 for a week knows that ectoplasm and WvW exist already)!

I would add a blurb about Gear progression (or the intended lack thereof).

Most MMOs have a gear progression required to attain the next phase to get the next level of gear. Since GW2 has the same gear available through all channels it means there is no real gear progression and everyone will have the same gear eventually doing what they want to do (wvwvw, farming gold, dungeons etc). This obviously does not include Ascended Gear through Fractals, or gear skins.

You imply it in a number of the points, but I am a recent 80 learning the game still and I had a hard time piecing this together even after reading your post. Once I got my first exotic piece, I realized that all exotics are the same (if the prefix is the same). At that point, it started to make sense the end game design here.

(Or If I am wrong, correct me since I am a new 80 and still learning)

My number one piece of advice in this or any MMO is make friends. If you are playing with people who you enjoy, it could be the oldest MMO out there, and you will have a blast. The community is the pillar in a good MMO. They have given you the content from 1-80 and a ton of random things to do once you are “end game”. We have a lot of different random content, but no matter how much they add or do not add, the thing that will make this a long term game for any of you is finding a group of people you enjoy. You can be in multiple guilds, find one you like, or two. I could run the same content again and again if I am with a group of people that I am lmao with. Being part of a community is what makes these games special.

Oh and on it being not a grind heavy game… it is very light on grinding. But setting your own goals and just following through is about all there is to this game. What you do by level 10 is what you do always. There is no end game. The game you see as you level, is the game you play always. It is not about getting higher on a ladder, it is about having fun with the pieces that already exist. You can look at it as a now what do I have to complete, or as I do “Wow, look at all the stuff I can do, and none of it is necessary for me to do in order to run with others.”

For people who want to grind, they can, but the stats you get off of any exotic gear works great in most places… unless you are already grinding fractals… in which case you pick up more gear and grind more.

End game learning how to avoid damage with dodging, and just figuring out new ways to use your skills goes a lot farther than many other things.

WHAT: Farm! Just farm! Farming involves the repeated slaughtering of innocent monsters such as the level cave trolls in Frostgorge Sound, or whatever you can handle. You still get level 80 items (greens, blues, yellows…) and any level materials relevant to your farming zone of choice.

It gives me a nice sentimental feeling inside that, nearly eight years, three expansions, and an entirely new game later, Guild Wars players are still farming cave trolls

Sweet, glad i found this, just reached 80 a few days ago, I had a rough idea of what there is to do.

Being sub free this game, i can definately see myself taking short breaks, coming back and working on some stuff, checking out new content.

I’m right into it at the moment, so i’ll be playing a lot I think, might work on world completion and doing some dungeons to get some dungeon gear.

Are there not people who just enjoy the game for the sake of playing? I just play. I have goals, of course, but it’s about playing, for fun. It seems like some people just have to complain about everything. I don’t view this game as a comparison to any other game, or as what Anet got right or wrong, but just a game that exists and I will have my fun with it.

Please take this as nothing more than constructive criticism. If people have concerns about lack of end game, it’s because there is. Much of what is listed here is either common sense, or it is indeed a grind. You can accomplish much of this here from any old MMORPG free or paid that you pick off the shelf or a website.

Keywords like Endgame are code-name for grind fests. Most MMOs out there are grind fests so this isn’t a knock on GW2 specifucally at all. I was a big GW1 fanboy, primarily for it’s PvP and primarily for RA/HA. In my opinion, GW1’s PvP was ground breaking, unmatched til this very day. GW2 sadly is a different story.

GW2 is BEAUTIFUL I am blown away by the graphics, however, there’s no soul to it, no purpose. What are you supposed to do after you “grind”, “farm”, “achieve” and “acquire” yourself all out?(these are your own words)

The ideal MMO should not have an endgame, it should be an on-going adventure. And no.. completing the same event over and over is not an adventure.

The name of this game is Guild Wars. As I walk around the beautiful landscape, I can’t help but wonder how much more GW2 could be. How hard is it to implement a Party vs Party PvP option so players could fight it out right in the middle of no where.. or everywhere. With all the beautiful cities/housing structures throughout the land, why can’t there be non-instanced housing? Perhaps a mix of non-instanced/instanced. Perhaps guilds could take over cities and actually use/live in them. Perhaps doing so can spark unique events, or affect taxes for merchants within the BLTC.

These are all ideas off the top of my head that really don’t seem that difficult to implement at all. I do thank you for the time you’ve put into the post but I’m also partially concerned that _Arena_net has thought this to be sticky-worthy. Perhaps, they feel this is a good list of ideas to kill time now, but I do hope there’s bigger plans for this game in the future.

I really like these ideas

It almost reminds me of Ragnarok days. Would be nice to have a Guild house and have other Guilds try to take it over and get the Guild Chest hehe.

Music is the Weapon of the Future.

max trait points are 70, you can only get that many because you have to plan out your build and distribute points accordingly. you cannot max all traits and no there is nothing wrong with that system, it provides you unique ways to build your character. you can however max 2 trait lines but it would only leave you with 10 points for another line. While this can work on certain classes in certain situations, it’s not really recommended to dump all your traits like that and limit yourself

If they would do this, being level 80 would be something really cool, and the game name would get a sense. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Guild-Wars-2-suggestion-real-Guild-Wars/first#post2706726 Meanwhile, at level 80 I think it is quite booring to play. A better alternative is to create a new level 1 character, with different story etc. In this case, you have more reasons to play.

@ New level 80’s: We should be hearing from you about what questions you have. What things do you consider fun?

As a new level 80, the fun is that I can START doing the list of 80 posted. Reaching 80 is the begining of the game, not the end for me.

There are still vast areas of the map that I cant roam around before getting squished easily. So much to do! Lots of challenges, some frustrating but still makes you determine to beat. For example I ran back and jumped off a cliff a dozen times to get a diving award as i kept landing on rocks at one site yesterday.
