I want to start out by saying in the last month and a half of playing has been a blast, I finally have a level 80 thief, but im stuck. I have been able to solo most content save Dungeons which I don’t know much about. All I want to do is finish the story line and now I am forced to group to get that done which has not been successful at all. I am not skilled enough for most groups they rush these dungeons. Even asking if I am new which I am very up front with. Tonight I got to hear how this is the toughest dungeon in the game, which I can believe but what is the point of having my story line if there is now way now for me to complete it?

I doubt a bunch of new players will want to be trounced with me over and over again, and experienced players don’t have the patience for a newb so I am failing to see the point now, even if I start leveling up another player I really looked forward to seeing where the story goes finally facing Zaitian and the chances of that successfully happening any time soon doesn’t seem likely. I know from my other mmo experience that Id rather not burden a party trying to learn and that most new players don’t want to lead into places they are unsure of.

I want to ask for help but chat is rather intimidating as it is and I already had my fair share of pushy types who look at my pixel character and get real weird. I am hoping by putting this hear I can find some people willing to go threw the dungeon I need to finally finish my story. I am on the Dragonbrand server unfortunately my guild of friends aren’t on the evening hours I am most nights so I am used to playing alone outside jumping into random events. I listen well and will do my best not to be a burden if a group forms.

People say it’s the toughest dungeon because of the explorable paths, you want to do the story path which is very easy.

Are you on NA? If so, and you see me on, I can hook you up with guildies that just love to run dungeons and don’t care about speed clearing. I’ll even go along to help!

The only problem is I may not be on since I’ve been super ill these past few days, have a ton of work to do this week, and then will be on travel for 2 weeks without an MMO playing device.

So maybe you should post in LFG “Arah Story, 1st time run” and see who joins. It could work well for you!

Yeah, biggest problem I think is that you’re joining the wrong group, story mode is simple, but you do need a party of 5 to complete, which is weird since it’s your personal story and all…
If the LFG tool doesn’t get you a group, you can even shout in map chat, someone will probably help you out.

Arah’s story mode is difficult (relative to most personal story missions,) and it’s long, so it can be problematic to get a group that will get through it. It’s not super difficult, but you need people to pay attention and work together, which is sometimes easier said than done if they’re used to just flailing away and respawning until everything is dead.

There’s a fight with two dragon servants on an airship that I find particularly troublesome, because people have to both operate the cannons and protect those using the cannons, and the dragons have a tendency to heal while the party is respawning if you’re wipe out.

Try not to let it discourage you, though, because it’s very satisfying when you complete it! (Or, at least, I found it satisfying. Others’ mileage may vary.)

If you are interested in the whole story and not totally against dungeons, you may want to consider doing all the dungeon story modes in order, starting with Ascalon Catacombs. There is a story line parallel to your personal story in these that also ends in the Arah story mode instance. Remember the mails from your Herald you got every ten levels or so about the members of Destiny’s Edge (Zojja, Rytlock, Caithe, Eir and Logan)? Those are the hints to that story line.

Post an lfg for the dungeon story mode you want to do, stating that it is your first time and you want to see the whole story with cutscenes. There are many experienced people around who like to re-play the story modes for the story’s sake and don’t care about rushing, and there’s a good chance you will get one or more of those in your party, helping you to get through.

Playing through all the story lines also gives you a chance to learn about the dungeons in this game (generally most if not all story line dungeons are easier than their explorable counterparts).

When I did Arah story the first time, it was not too long after release and back then even having a rare was like O_O! Especially when everyone in the party was kitted out in blues and greens (I suggest getting a party together some day and doing it with subpar equipment for the laughs). This was also before the advent of zerkers as the damage meta, so everyone had a mishmash of builds that they didn’t know how to use.

All the dungeon stories are quite easy now because once past the end game, they can’t reasonably challenge a well prepared and equipped group.

Arah story is one of the easiest.. like half of it you don’t even have to do anything or show any sort of skill, you’ll either use the guns on the ship to protect against the dragons or go AFK while it moves you around the map at a really really slow pace.
