I had assumed that the new timing mechanism would control the pre-events, but I’ve done the pre-events several times and after the totem is destroyed, Brogun goes back to grab a beer and watch NASCAR.

While I’m understanding of how important quenching a Norn’s thirst is, I’m still left wondering if these “fake Maws” are working as designed and the pre’s are triggering outside of the schedule, or what?

I’m cool with changing things around, this isn’t a complaint thread, just want to know if this is what we should expect with the new megaserver system.

I recall the patch notes mentioning this change, but am unsure of the exact pre-event details to comment on how Maw now spawns (but it does appear it has been changed).

It was in the patch notes.

If the totem is destroyed before the boss spawns, Brogun says the job is done and leaves.

But if no one hits it he just seems to stand there. How long do you have to leave it alone? That sounds like a bad design to me, as 3 people can destroy it in about 15 seconds, and we had waited 15-20 seconds before starting.

Especially considering a lowbie area, more chance someone else will not know everyone has to stand around twiddling their thumbs instead of actually playing the game.

Ah well.

That’s what I read. But it must take a minute or so at least.

Of course, the griefers now have a new venue….

Maw happens every two hours. Scholar Brogan’s event happens more frequently than that, however, so if Maw isn’t active, he just goes home. If the Maw activates and Scholar Brogan isn’t already active, his event will begin.

I’m too lazy to dig up a link or quote, but it’s outlined in the patch notes, and it’s working as intended, confusing as that is for those of us used to the old event chain.

You do NOT have to worry about people destroying the totem. Go crazy. Rain fire. Etc. etc.

See screenshot for “Real Maw”. If the event text on the top right does not look exactly like that, you will not get to fight the champ. The pre-events are no longer tied to the boss event in that they will start without the boss ever showing up at predefined intervals, whereas if the boss event timer starts, the pre-events will start immediately and conclude with the boss event.

And yeah, it was stated in the release notes:

The following low-level-zone world bosses will activate at 15 minutes and 45 minutes past the hour in this rotation:

Svanir Shaman Chief

  • Once the boss is activated, a message will appear in the meta-event UI indicating that a powerful Sons of Svanir Shaman has been spotted in the Maw. If the event chain that involves protecting Scholar Brogun as he investigates the grawl tribe is not active at this time, it will begin immediately.
  • Scholar Brogun will only wait five minutes for player assistance, instead of forever.
If Scholar Brogun dies and is not resurrected by a player for a total of five minutes, the event chain will fail.
  • If the event to destroy the dragon totem has succeeded when the boss is not activated, Scholar Brogun will declare victory and return to Krennak’s homestead without fighting the shaman.
