Q:

I know this is a question you see quite often, but since the situation is different for everyone, I would like your guys’ opinion as well. I have recently acquired about 4k gems, and I don’t know what to spend them on at the moment. I don’t know how to track when things will go on sale, etc., so it’s hard to decide…Here’s what I already have:

Character Slots: 9 (I am an altoholic, so one for each class)
1 Storage Expander (500 mat stack in bank)
Bobblehead Laboratory
Copperfed Salvage-o-Matic

So since I am an altoholic as mentioned above, I play so many different characters that I can’t imagine the infinite gathering tools being something useful to me, without spending money on both them AND the shared inven slots. So I’m going to pass on them…aside from that, I’ve looked at bank space, more mat storage, shared inven slots, or the Crystal Savant Outfit. Are there any other things that you think would be good options for me? Thank you in advance!

And if there is any other information that you need to know about me in order to offer advice, just ask, and I will update it.

If you can’t get out of it, get into it.

If you don’t already have extra bank tabs, I’d buy at least two of those because that will be useful for ALL of your characters. You’d have gems leftover after that to get anything else you might like.

I, personally, don’t feel that the storage expanders are worth it, but I know others who don’t feel that way; so, if you end up amassing tons of mats, getting another might be good.

If you don’t already have your copper fed salvage-o-matic in a shared inventory slot, then getting a slot would honestly be worth it for the convenience of that item alone.

There are lots of threads about this, from time to time, and near as I can tell, the advice is always similar:

  • Everyone agrees that the Copper-fed Salvage tool is the best option. Everyone salvages and saving room is great.
  • Shared inventory slots are fantastic, because it makes things like the Copper-Fed accessible to everyone all the time.
  • Bank expanders are also always useful.

The next few recommendations vary depending on personal preferences:

  • People with a single main like extra bag slots and crafting licenses — this allows them more freedom on their primary toon.
  • Altoholics are going to want more toon slots — the more you have, the more bank tabs you might want.
  • Personally, I couldn’t live without at least one set of everlasting harvesting tools — I put them in the shared inventory slots and swap them immediately before and after swapping toons. (The Watchwork pick is universally considered optimal — it’s fun & drops some extra mats.)

In addition, I’d also recommend that you make at least one “fun” purchase. Toons cannot live on loot alone — everyone “knows” that a good-looking character does better in the game than lackluster ones. My personal favorite are glider skins and outfits: glider skins always make me smile and outfits are great for leveling new toons (so you don’t have to reskin each time you get new gear).

Bobblehead — I’m happy to leech off over everyone else in the game who has one, but then again, if folks such as yourself didn’t buy them, I wouldn’t be able to do that.

Finally, save 800 or 1,000 gems for a future purchase — the gem shop has been recycling old items for the last 8-12 months and there’s always something old or new showing up that makes someone drool.
