While this may very well and unfortunately come across simply as a whine post, I do hope that something can be gleaned from it. I picked up the original Guild Wars when all the expansions were out, and adored it. I thought kitten near everything they did in the game was fantastic. However, after nearly 2 years of Guild Wars 2, I still cannot find any real enjoyment out of it for more than about 30 minutes every week or so….The games themselves feel entirely different, and so I do not compare them all that much since that would not really change anything. I’m not looking for the perfect GW sequel or the next ‘WoW killer’, etc. I have come back after about 3 months off, hoping that a fresh set of eyes would change things. Alas, it seems like not at this point.

I have played each class up to at least level 40 (not close to max, I understand), gone through WvWvW, sPvP, and general PvE, and for the life of me I continue to feel something is missing. ANet has done fantastic work with many of their games, and I know this is one of their biggest productions. But despite that, I cannot seem to get anything out of it! Puzzles, combat, crafting and events….

I am reaching out in the hopes that I am simply missing something, maybe multiple things, and for different perspectives. Maybe even others who have found ways around the very problem I have here. I want very much to like the game, but I cannot find anything thus far that grabs me and that I find enjoyable for more than, quite literally, a few minutes at a time.

Well that’s the thing, you need to actually level one of your guys to 80 before you have the real fun. For many, the endgame is both challenging and enjoyable. You can gear out your 80 with ascended/legendaries which can be fun if you make it, best way to do this is by grinding PvE, mostly group content and dungeons/fractals (though tbh i haven’t done fractals in months, I got all the ascended pieces I wanted from it a long time ago I guess). For me personally ascended crafting is more frustrating than for legendaries, that’s mainly coz of dragonite which I’ve had a lot of problem with. That’s basically all I focus on anymore, just min-maxing my gear or improving aesthetics with different skins, dyes etc. and having fun with PvE and dungeon runs (I only run the few paths I like). There is also PvP but I could never get into it much, and of course living story achievs but again, something I haven’t done in months. I feel that megaserver ruined most of the endgame for me, for instance CoE almost always get contested after i finish one path, and I have to leave even though I join for an all path run (you have no idea how annoying that is). another thing it ruined is that there is always someone doing any event, makes it hard to solo Champs etc. in open world if you want to test yourself or are just doing it for fun. For instance something like this is no long possible (tried it a while ago on thief, but there’s always someone else there): Champ solo in Cursed Shore

In short you should plan on getting at least one of your guys to lvl80, then you will find you have more fun with groups or with guild. For instance there’s potential for me to make 50g in 3 hours or so, but that’s boring for me since I know it’ll just be me and no one else. that’s why I instead run the dungeons I like with guild or pugs, I definitely make less but at least I have fun with it. My advice is to pick one or two classes that you like most, and run with them. For the longest time, I had only one class I used as my main (warrior for half a year when I started). I then tried guard and ele for a month each, but I haven’t used either in a long time. I could never get the hang of guardian, it didn’t feel like I was doing dps even when I had the build for it and also I wasn’t sure I was doing it right. Ele was fun for the first months because it was challenging.. then it became too much effort, especially might stacking all the time and then downing a lot and getting frustrated with pugs. I don’t use it much anymore, except when doing a full speedclear dungeon tour with guild which tbh I haven’t done in a month at least. I usually run only a few paths with pugs nowadays, with same class usually. I make a lot less gold then I probably could, but I’m fine with that since I mostly beat the game and have basically everything I wanted (5 legendaries after year or so, though I still don’t have full ascended gear and am missing a lot of dragonite which I won’t be getting anytime soon).

tl;dr just play the game and have fun getting to lvl 80. try not to make comparisons with the original GW etc. Also with 30 minutes a week you shouldn’t expect to see much progress. good luck

The problem you are having is that you haven’t got a single char to 80.
Get to 80 first, see what content becomes available after you reach that.

You can’t enjoy WvW on an upscaled level, since you will be picked off and killed fast.
Dungeon/FoTM runs won’t invite you because you are not 80.
You can’t enjoy the new living story season 2 since its for lvl 80 aswell.
And so on.

The game really starts beyond level 80. Everything comes more easily available (if you are specced right ofcourse).

Pick a class, get it to 80 by just exploring new regions and finishing the main story, after that you will hopefully find what you are missing. If you don’t like the main story, then there is another problem. But i didn’t find it that bad at all, since for me it was really fun to do solo and every time the story went further so for me that was a case of completing it.

If you got enough gold, wich i highly doubt, you can craft it to 80.
