I have been saving my gold to use on the gem store armor skins but I am still a ways from 80.
So can transmutation stones be used on armor which has had the skin applied like can I add the skin to a level 79 item and use the 79 stone on say a 50 level item??
or would the level 80 stones work?

Levels don’t matter when transmuting skins, if you wanted you could grab a level 80 exotic, transmute it to a level 1 white piece of gear and wear it in a character fresh out of the tutorial.

The only limitation is that if any of the items you’re using for the transmutation is level 80, you’ll beed to use a transmutation crystal instead of a stone.

You add the skin to a lvl 50 item, if you want the skin on another equipment piece, you use transmutation stones until lvl 79. If you hit 80, you have to use the crystals (It doesn’t matter if the new item is 80 but the item with the skin 79 or lower). It works fine and it’s no problem.
