Strange censorship of names?
Vas"ho"den?
Just guessing. /shrug
Seriously? Two letters that can be commonly used together (hospital, Horton etc.) make the whole name unuseable? Sure, I know AN wants to eliminate vulgarity, but isn’t that overdoing it?
It may be that “shod” or some part of those four letters is an insulting term in some obscure language that made it into the filters from GW1 days.
Arenanet said that if a name was improper, you can always file a ticket at support to ask for the reason. So my advise is to do so and ask them. I personally see not a lot wrong, but like being said, it can be the word Ho or parts of the word that have some bad meaning in a different language, so ask them, and if they don’t have a good reason I’m sure you can still get your name.
I know from a certain youtube video they will always answer. (the video was bout a name used to promote the size of a certain male body part, the reply was imo hilarious: ‘deceiving advertising’ )
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
It probably is the “hoden” part of it. Testicles would be the german→english translation to that.
It also might be a name taken by an NPC. That is something to keep in mind.
If some of the people here are right (German for “testicles”) then don’t you think Anet is doing you a favor?
had to change jebidiah to jebediah. I’ve since learned why, but to get from point a to b on that one is a stretch to say the least. the system just detects certain letter combinations. it cant detect context
Trogdor The Analyst, you will be Mourned.
Hi,
If you think any action taken was incorrect, please contact Customer Support. They will be able to give an explanation to why the need of a name change.
Thanks for your understanding
I think ity’s funny that something like this was censored, but I saw a guy named Big kitten in pvp…
Edit: kitten is supposed to be another name for a male genitals, starting with an “sch” and ending with “long”.
