Guild Wars 2

Hi ya friendly veteran-forum players. I’m looking for some suggestions towards a strong profession primarily used for farming (mostly solo but occasionally in groups).

I have a 80 mesmer I leveled up when I last played (6 months or so ago), but this time coming back to the game i’ll be leveling a toon with my wife. I recall previously that I wasn’t always able to land quick, substantial damage on the majority of mobs to get credit for looting them while working with groups. Since I will be leveling another toon to 80 I thought it would be a good idea to invest in a toon that was stronger in farming.

I’d say the most interesting classes to me appear to be the elementalist, engineer, and thief, though I am open to suggestions on each class if there is one that shines above others in farming.

Guardian, warrior or elementalist. All of them have very strong AOE damage thus making the good farmers.
Guardian tho has the best “tapping” weapon in the game: the staff. “Tapping” basically means damaging the monster enough to get the loot. You can hit most targets in large fights and thus get the most loot. Guardians are also extremely mobile if build so and our GS is ridiculously good for melee AOE.

In the end it’s up to you and I’m just expressing my opinion based on my personal experience. Elementalist is also great AOE tapping with staff.

Ranger is surprisingly good here. Longbow is good for quickly tagging from range (either AoE or single target), then something like axe/torch is useful for hitting many mobs in a group (axe 1 bounces, axe 2 hits multiple targets, torch 5 is PBAoE). Damage output is a little low and conditions kind of get marginalized in big zergs, but I’ve never had issues with it as a farming profession.

Guardian staff 1 basically hits everything.
