Hey community,

I’d like to ask for your help/advice.

I picked up the game a couple months ago and have had a lot of fun. I was really excited to get into WvW and the PvE has been fun so far. I rolled a thief, got him to 80 and a full set of exotic Berserker. While roaming/smallgrouping in WvW I was invited to a guild who is very active on our server. They asked if I had a guardian, and I didn’t. But I was very much intrigued by them, so I rolled one, got it to 80 fairly quickly, and grabbed a set of berserker’s and knight’s exotic.

So that’s where my problem started: The WvW hasn’t been as exciting as I thought—in zergs or in roaming. It seems to be a lot of PvE without much zerg v zerg action. When we do find people to attack, it’s usually a chase chase chase thing. What this has taught me is that WvW, while fun, is not the be-all, end-all for me ingame. I need to branch out.

It seems the guardian is a good call if I want to move into Dungeons (haven’t done any yet) and higher end PvE. But I also enjoy my thief. In addition, all the classes look so interesting that I could see myself leveling them just to experience the diverse classes. Any of the things I mentioned sounds fun. But I simply don’t budget enough time into the game to do it all.

I never thought I’d complain about it—and I don’t think I’m actually complaining—but there is just so much to do that it’s easy to get sidetracked or off-focus. I have always enjoyed MMOs the most when I had a large, overarching goal that I systematically worked for. But right now, I’m really struggling to find that—not only because I’m enjoying all the other aspects of the game (crafting, exploring, PvE, PvP, etc) but also because I don’t really have a good idea of what ‘endgame’ constitutes. The one thing I can say is that I absolutely LOVE zone/world events. Having a bunch of people come together and do dynamic events is the sweet spot for me now—blame Rift. And playing as a guardian in those, I feel like I’m helping.

So as you can see from how convoluted and meandering my post is, my time spent ingame is meandering and unfocused.

I know I’m asking a lot, but I’m not asking anyone to read my mind. I know that ultimately I have to make my own decisions about what’s fun and worth my time. But the simple fact is that I just don’t know what’s out there.

Thanks for any help you may be able to offer. I’m just looking for options, opinions and maybe even a couple “This is what I did” responses. Coming into a game that’s already established, and being a new player in a guild/world that’s already established, is pretty daunting. If you have links, I’d love to read them.

I’m just kinda lost.

Thanks a bunch,

<3 Murder

Sorry to not quote you fully

But those two bits center the issue imo.

I guess you have some experience with other MMO’sand maybe even the ones with monthly fees.

GW2 doesn’t require monthly fees. spending money in the gemstore is appreciated but optional. The game will still be there 3-4 years from now. It has been 9 years since the original guildwars got released, and you can still play it.

So why the hurry?? A game like this, specially when you have a busy schedule is always here, whenever you want to relax, have somefun time!

It doesn’t matter if you are not as good as your neighbour. I don’t judge and I don’t think many others will judge you. If they do, just ignore them. they are the trolls.

GW2 is designed to have huge potential, but no rush. you can do things at your own speed. Yes you might miss some off the living story, but the goal is simply to bridge the gap between expansions. On top of that, theyare turning it more and more into permanent content. So you can prolly escape form LA next week or 3-4 years from now.

You got atleast 5 character slots. There is nothing wrong with using them all, logging into the game, look at them and think ‘Who am I gonna pick today’.

So my advise, Make that Guardian. Don’t rush him, just enjoy the process of leveling. It is not supposed to be a burden, we all come here to spent our free time and have fun!.

Arise, ye farmers of all nations
Arise, opressed of Tyria!

Eh, almost all of us come into this game with it already in progress. That’s actually the norm.

I’ve been playing the game for a little more than a year, and my play experience varies greatly from day to day depending on my mood. One thing to do may be to pick something to explore in depth for a few days, be it dungeons, or PvP, or WvW, or Fractals, or whatever, and you’ll eventually find what really speaks to you. Not rushing it and letting it come about organically with patience will eventually give the game much more focus.

You basically have to listen to what you feel like and just go with it that day. Some days I’m really in the mood for bosses and fighting, some days WvW grabs me, some days it’s leveling alts pushing open maps and running WvW, and some days all I’ve got the brain power for is checking out my achievement panel to pick something to work on or finish. Some days are just jumping puzzle days with friends, and I’d be lying if I said that there weren’t a few days in there where I just felt like doing not much more than just wandering around the maps appreciating the art. lol

I did end up rolling one of each profession, and that’s been really fun to explore the professions more in depth. If anything, it makes your main better because you get to know how each other profession ticks and what their weaknesses are. It also took me months and several profession to find who my main profession really was, and that was a fun trip to get there. I shot for map completion on a couple of them, and have just slowly been working on my alt 80’s maps and leveling my lower alts. I’m in no rush on those and have been getting to understand each profession much better.

As for WvW, I’m lucky in that I’m in a server where there’s no shortage of very good battles and strategy. If WvW really is what you’re interested in and your server isn’t as active as you hoped, then the only real option there (sadly, if you have friends on your server, really like your guild, or both) is to pick a more active server for that.

Good luck and I hope that things all settle in soon! The great thing is that there is no one way to play this game, and once you discover what really speaks to you, it gets even better.

Good luck!

Guardian is a bit of a dull class for WvW (If you ask me of course )
It’s restricted pretty well to sticking in the middle of a zerg as support. In 1v1 situations it pretty well sucks.

Thief is a loner class with no real value to anyone else. It’s basically a troll that can kill lone targets easily but is ineffective against more (assuming decent skill opponents of course)

In between those extremes you have the other classes. I like Mesmer for it’s thief-like qualities. Warrior is a bit like a Guardian with some decent clout and survivability. Ele is difficult but rewarding. Necro looks like fun – I haven’t tried it yet. Engineer maybe? Ranger?

Definitely try other classes.

I’m able to beat most players with my Guardian, especially in 1v1 :s
