Sorry if this isn’t in the right area, I wasn’t sure where it would best fit. I Google’d and didn’t see any recent topics about this.

I recently went to go purchase $20 in gems via PayPal, and noticed there was a $1.20 tax on top of the purchase. I don’t ever remember being taxed before. The last time I purchased gems was a few weeks ago. I recently had to close my bank account and create a new one, so I can’t go back in my online banking and check for sure. But I do know that I always marked it down as an even $10 or $20, as that extra little bit would have thrown everything off and I would have noticed if there was a tax before.

So, is this a new thing within the past few weeks/month? It’s just a little bit extra and I don’t mind, but I’m just wondering why all of a sudden there’s a tax.

Maybe you local law change and now make require for sale tax on internet sale/virtual item.

The collection of sales tax is not something that we control. As pointed out in this and other threads, our billing provider is required by law to collect a form of tax (sales, VAT, whatever it may be called or however it is defined) for gem purchases.

Hmm, well then looks like that’s just the way it is then. I still wonder why it happened so recently, for me at least. Oh well, thanks.

I think some person say in one of those thread that tax law that change often start beginning of year.

Your city/county/state decided to change its tax laws, and those changes usually go into effect during the first month of the year.
