Support Builds
Hi Wrath,
One thing to keep in mind is that combat roles are no longer married to specific professions. Every profession is capable of support, and has the option to build toward a support-oriented role. Some classes just have more support options than others.
Guardians are built on defense and teamwork—heals, shouts, boons, condition removal and combo fields. Water Elementalists have some robust healing options. Warriors can play effective midline support using Longbow and capitalizing on shouts and banners. Engineers have versatile means of supporting a team—medkits, grenades, turrets. Even Necromancers, Mesmers, Rangers and Thieves have different ways of strengthening their team and acting as “force multipliers.”
I know it sounds like generic advice, but I strongly encourage you to Check out the GW2 Wiki and read up on the Skills of every class.
Guardian is the class I know best. You’ll find a lot of solid Guardian builds cropping up in this forum. If you’d like, this is a link to a Guardian build I’ve been working on. It’s a versatile, team-oriented build that performs well solo and capitalizes on big, satisfying crits to fuel its buffs:
Guardian is about as close to a class like that as you’ll find on GW2. But not a true healer as much as a utility class. Mesmer with a 2H staff is strikingly handy on the utility end also…just figured that out yesterday on a new mesmer.

Thank you for the advice! I should have been more specific; pvp is my primary concern. I just wanted some general advice about how different support specs play. I am definitely reading the wiki and your thread.
