Guild Wars 2

Need some advice.. on which class to play.. I prefer to play support-ish builds/roles and I generally prefer ranged characters.

I also prefer WvW/PvPt to PvE but I’d like a class that can do both

Ranger is god for WvW due to 1800 range longbow and pet just charging in with impunity. Mesmer also has decent range (spammable minions summonable at 1200) but they’re not really a ranged class.

In terms of PvE, engineers are the kings of ranged support. They have some of the best support options in the game (top tier in stacking might, vuln, heals, snares, and also offers loads of blind and stealth) and they actually have a legitimate ranged DPS option to boot.

Generally speaking, of all the classes, only three really have valid ranged options: guardian, elementalist, and engineer, and guardian doesn’t offer very good support, ironically enough.

What you talkin’ ’bout Willis?

Guardians offer amazing group support if played with support in mind. Group Aegis, Protection, Healing, Warding, and Boons out the yang. Even if you spec a Guardian for all out DPS (not going to be among the top outputs), They can still lay down some decent group support with several weapon attacks and via Virtues. A decent Hammer Guardian can keep huge numbers of nearby allies alive with just the protection from their auto-attack.

Then again, they are very mediocre ranged fighters (but CAN work as ranged).

How do spirit rangers measure up? :o

Staff ele, engineer, mesmer > a ranger in WvW for ranged support.

My problem with staff ele is.. they seem to be really unwanted in dungeon groups :/ Not sure why, but there you go.
