Okay, my Elementalist has recently reached 32. And sadly, most of that was solo, which I am finding dreadfully boring. Lately, my sessions have been thus…

1 – Log in
2 – Go to whatever zone I want to adventure in
3 – Broadcast in Map Chat that I am looking for a team
4 – Go run around the zone beating on various enemies for about 15 minutes
5 – Broadcast one more time looking for a team
6 – Spend another 15 minutes running about the zone beating things up
7 – Finally get bored and log out

How does one find teams in this game. In the last game I used to play, it was pretty easy to get a full team of 8 at most any time. Here, it feels like it is strictly a single player game. I keep my status set as LFG, but I have yet to see any actual team search tool in game. Is there one? If so, where is it? Or if there is not, is there a global chat channel specifically for LFG instead of Map chat?

I feel you on this, my current char is lvl 41 and it’s been hard.

The only real teams of random people are doing dungeons. For the rest the game is in an open world, where you don’t have to form teams to work together. When your saying solo, I think you also mean the people you meet on the road and who accidently are doing the same thing. That as well is a sort of team.

The difference with other games is that you don’t need to team up to get loot and experience if xour doing the same thing. This is in itself a positive thing. But the down side is that it lacks the need of a team. My advise in your case would be to find a guild that tackles zones as a party. You can map-chat in lions arch that your looking for a guild. But cause your preferences, my advise is to go to the guilds-section of this forum, explain your level and that your looking for a guild that likes to party up for doing personal story’s and zones and that your playing in NA (northern America) or EU (European). Even if the guild that would work for you is on a different server I would transfer there (still free at the moment).

Well, I just spent several hours chatting away off and on in Lion’s Arch, occasionally interjecting that I was looking for a group for exploration and personal story quests. Still no luck. I never mentioned looking for a guild though. When it comes to joining such, I prefer to get on a normal team for whatever activities, and then let one of the team members bring up the possibility of joining their guild if they think I am suitable for them. Hasn’t happened yet though.

What do you want a team for?

Keep in mind that groups do 3 things in this game.

1. Adds blue dots to your minimap.
2. Adds health bars to the left of your screen.
3. Adds a new chat channel.

Loot, xp, buff availability, etc is exactly the same whether you are grouped or ungrouped.

You can fully complete maps in half the time with a party traveling together. (if the the POIs,DEs and SPs aren’t bugged that is).

Even if you are halfway through a map,it is still faster,safer and better xp/loot to go back to the start hearts with new to zone players and redo them.Getting the recommended finishing/starting level requirements just isn’t possible the first time through a map anyway. (I finish Queensdale at 11 move to Kessex and finish at 18 solo).

I’d rather be in a party having fun with others redoing a map,than running the DEs solo over and over,trying to get the next maps starting level req.With a party of five,some smaller events that normally would be bypassed can be easily completed.

I’ve run into this problem in other games too. In one game in particular there was always the complaint that you were dividing loot and experience if you teamed up. That complaint doesn’t apply here. I’m wondering if we have been trained to solo because in most games it gives you an advantage?

I will agree, it is a lot more fun if you have people to adventure with when you play. Sometimes I have guild mates on to group with but it is a small guild of friends and family so there are many times when others aren’t online.

There are enough people that want to be in a group while playing, we just need to be able to locate each other. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hey everyone. It’s good to hear there are people looking for others and play as a group. However it is very hard to form a group other than for dungeons. The option is either join/form a guild for such purpose or ask in map chat. Currently there is not much accessibility to form groups simply for exploration.

I recommend meeting in a specified location one well know such as Divinitys Reach. This is how meet up with friends wanting to group up.

I this is the sort of attitude I like to see. Such things will also be discussed on my topic Helping New Players/Helping New Players With Dungeons. I’d be honoured if you drop in. :-)

The best way to find a group imo is to start finding friends. When your in the open talk to people in local chat. Say thank you when they rez you, or compliment them on the way they dressed their character. Ask questions and ask help witzh specifick things. In other words. Socialise. In the long term You will meet people with who you click and who might have the same goal in game or with who you click so good that you would want to adjust your goals, even if it means waiting up. It may sound very hippy-flowerpower-like but it is the best way to find friends, and friends form the best party’s.

I appreciate all the suggestions so far. And 4 days since I first posted this, I have managed to make another 2 levels (34 now), and it has still effectively been a single player game for me.

Socializing in DR and LA hasn’t helped any, and most of the LFM shouts I see are for higher level dungeons. I do see the occasional broadcast for AC, but the thought of going through that a second time on the same character sickens me. :/

I am still hoping that if I can, by some miracle, get on a full team one of these days, that might serve as the gateway to get into a suitable guild instead of joining one of those that is always broadcasting for new members or sending blind invites. I prefer that the guild I join have some members with whom I have already ran.

Would turning off representation for my personal guild help draw the notice of another guild when teamed? Is it possible that when they see that I am already in a guild that they assume that I would not be interested in joining another?

I personaly find MMO’s to easy at the best of times and groups just make it even easier. And it becomes annoying when a group is ‘needed’ becouse you cant solo, but a 5 man group makes to way to easy, and those are your only 2 options. This is why i like GW2 everything bar champions and dungeons (which are pointless as loot is crap for both) is soloable and you can make it challenging by simply making sure you slightly underleveled.

I understand some people find it boring going solo and want to play a mmo for the multiplayer experiance. but for that, the game needs to be suitably difficult and/or have good scailing depending on number of people in a given area. Atm GW2 has nether of these.
I have a 80 Guardian using level 76 rare armor and a 80 exotic wep and it plows through everything with ease.
Im now lvling a mesmer (currently lvl 30) simply for the fact that it seems to be, imo, a much more complicated class to play. Much more reliant on traits, a simple skill rotation requirs weapon swaping, and kiting is essential.

As for lfg, well there is a window for lfg, but it ether doenst work or no1 uses it becouse its constantly blank for me. Anet really need to impliment a Asian mmo style lfg where you post your charatcer/group up with a title like lfg for X .. or lfg 2 mroe for X .and you can broadcast it and peopel and click and apply to join.
What Anet should NOT do is put in a Auto LFG/Dungoen finder system like Rift, Wow, etc etc. They make communities crumble.

I will be checking out and hopefully soon posting in that other thread for teaming. Tonight was rather pathetic… about 4 hours in game and went from 35 to 35.9, and a good portion of that was due to completing Gendarran Fields exploration.

Saw plenty of announcements for AC. But I really have no desire to go through that more than once on any particular character. Perhaps tomorrow night will be better if I get around to logging in early enough.

i’ve formed more than one groups / parties with random people even out in open field PvE. i usually do so if i see the person more or less running around the same general area i am. you can tell if they’re going for map competion, doing chain events, etc.. i just /s ask if they wanna party and let ‘em know what i’m up to, and send an invite. worst is they’ll just decline. i’ve been pretty lucky though.

i’v partied with people:
- making my way to cursed shore and arah dungeon with a random group (made it easier and we all had similar goals)
- doing map completion and jumping puzzles
- just doing random farming and DEs

and once you find a good group, and you’re usually online at the same time, you can get a steady group going : ))
