Hi,

Please.

I have 3 characters. A level 35 Warrior, a level 22 Ranger, and a level 19 Elementalist.

At what level can I start entering Dungeons? To get a group for a dungeon, is there just chat or some other mechanism? Are there different dungeons at different levels, or do they all scale?

Oh, and for my Warrior, would people like to see me using my Greatsword, or Rifle, in a dungeon?

That’s about it for now. Thanks in advance.

Cheers.

The first dungeon is Ascalon Catacombs which you can do at level 30. After that the next ones are at ten level intervals, so Caudecus’s Manor at 40, Twilight Arbor at 50, and so on (you should get notified about them as you level up, through mail).

There’s just chat for finding a group right now, well that and you can get your status as ‘LFG’ on your friends panel. Ask in map chat either in the zone of the dungeon (Plains of Ashford for Catacombs) or in Lion’s Arch, which is a general hub (but mostly full of Fractals of the Mists requests now).

As for weapon choice, I’m not sure, I can’t imagine there being complaints but you can always ask when you find a group if people want to request specific skills or if they have any problems with your weapon set-up.

Good luck!

You can run AC (Ascalonian Catacombs) story at level 30, and exploration (unlocked after story) at level 35, so your warrior can start his or her first dungeon adventure now! You will probably want to have good gear (relative to your level) to tackle it, though, because the mobs and bosses are much more difficult than what’s in general PvE.

You can find the names, locations, and level requirements of the other dungeons on the wiki, but it’s about 1 unlock every 10 levels until level 70, then you get a few more after that.

To find a group, you can either map chat in LA or (less recommended) on the map that the dungeon is located. You can also use the LFG option in your Friends panel. There is also the third party tool http://gw2lfg.com/ that you may use.

People would like to see whatever you’re most effective with and what synergizes with the party well (though I have been in some odd party combinations, and then you adapt just make it work). If you have been working toward a rifle crit build, then maybe a rifle is good. If you have utilities that boost your mobility or tankiness, maybe a GS or even sword and board might be better. Having both your GS and Rifle equipped will be useful, and you’ll get a feel for what’s better when as soon as you run the dungeon a couple times.

Good luck dungeoning!

Hey Lanky. You can really go into dungeons whenever even if you are slightly under leveled. However you might not find a group nice enough. I did my first Story at lvl 27.

You are correct dungeons have certain lvl requirements:

AC Story: 30 Explore: 35
CM Story: 40 Explore: 45

And such.

Normally you can type in LFG (Looking for group) and what ever dungeon and what type and the path (Story does not have a path)

E.g LFG AC EX P1

That would mean: Looking for group, Ascalonian catacombs, Explore Mode, Path 1
Helps to tell the party it’s your first time run or something too.

To be honest never stick to a certain weapon in dungeons depending on a situation a different combo of skills or weapons maybe better suited to that situation.

For now go with what you find comfortable!
Also be careful about going full dps, you want at least some toughness due to possible one shots from mobs.

There is story and explorable dungeons. You do not have to be a certain level to enter a dungeon but you meeting the level requirement is respectful for other players and is the bare minimum, so keep that in mind.

First dungeon starts at 30 and that’s story mode; explorable mode for each dungeon are unlocked 5 levels after story mode. So for the first dungeon, it will have a lvl30 story mode and a lvl35 explorable mode.

Everytime you hit the required level, which happens to be in increments of 10 (i.e. 30, 40, 50…etc) you will get a mail letting you know about the dungeon available. If you look on the world map and zoom out, big dungeon doors will be shown on the screen for the ones available to you at your level.

www.gw2lfg.com is a way to find parties. But in-game options are map chat in LA or on the dungeon map area or joining a guild that runs dungeons.

You do story mode to gain the ability for yourself to start explorable mode. Some people skip story mode as long as someone in the party has done it and can access explorable mode. For instance, in a party of 5 where no one has done story mode, you cannot enter explorable mode. If at least one person has it, he can start the dungeon and you all can enter.

Having both close-range and long-range weapons are good to begin with. Once you know the dungeon mechanics, you can re-assess yourself for weapons best fit. But it’s not preferred for you to enter combat, and not be able to switch to a long-rage when needed.

As being said, finding a dungeon group is basicly done in chat. There are also guilds specialised in dungeon runs.

The minimum requirement for Ascalonian catacombs is lvl 30. Though personally I would wait till your level 45 and start with CM. I have three reasons for it.

a: dungeon’s are a lot harder then regular fights. Every fight is like a bossfight. meeting the requirements and specially being 5 levels above gives you a good change to you also have gear that is on-level (without resorting to the need of investing money). CM is a level 40 dungeon. So logic dictates level 45 would be optimum. For a starting dungeneer I always advise CM cause it is shorter then AC, while the fights are of the same difficulty level.

b: Skills. Having enough skillpoints and skills unlocked means you are more felxible when things get harder and when you need to change your role in the team. At lvl 45 you will have the most important skills unlocked and also very likely a so called superelite (The ones that cost 30 skillpoints).

But like others pointed out. It is very much possible to do a dungeon even under the recommended level.

Hey, thanks for all the responses.

I wondered what that mail at level 30 was all about

I’ll give it a try on my Warrior sometime, although I’m playing my Ranger and Elementalist to catch up right now.

Cheers.

Be wary, many groups will kick you once they realize you’re not 80.

Dungeons are MUCH easier with a full party of exotic-geared 80’s so a lot of people don’t take low-levels because it makes dungeons harder/longer.

Just a heads up!

Really?

I don’t get it then. If the dungeon opens at level 30, isn’t it made for level 30-35 people to participate?

Gosh. I wish they had an LFD so that people of the same levels could all get thrown together for Dungeons.

Cheers.

The level scaling in the game is off. While theorhetically the game does downscale you to the dungeon’s appropriate level (which should, in theory, make every player equal as long as you aren’t below the level requirement), the damage you do isn’t reduced as much as you’d expect, so level 80 players downscaled to level 30 will do more damage than actual level 30 players. The difference is relatively noticable as well, moreso the lower you go. You’ve probably noticed even while playing normally that some players are doing much more damage than you are in the lower level areas, thats probably because they’re high level players being downscaled to a lower level zone.

The dungeons ARE perfectly doable (though very difficult) with a full group of level-appropriate players, certainly. Like you said, thats what they’re designed for. But because level 80 players have an advantage, some players will still prefer to run pure level 80 groups regardless. Especially since many of the higher level players are at the point where they’re running dungeons purely to get tokens / loot, so they just want to beat it as fast and easy as possible.

Not to say that everyone is like that, but there are some.

I’m sure you’ll be able to find groups. It was more a warning that if you get kicked, it’s probably because you’re not 80 and nothing against you personally.

I know I personally only run with 80’s. I hate dungeons as it is. I don’t wanted added difficulty/complications to it.

There are plenty of groups and people out there that are perfectly willing to take you in at minimum level… of course, a lot of that depends on what server your on as well. Having said that http://gw2lfg.com/ is a great place to find people. If not there, Lion’s Arch overflow has netted me some really good groups in the past.

Good luck with your dungeoneering!

@Lankybrit if you’re on an EU server I’ll be glad to help ya! However I’m normally on at 2000 GMT Fri to Sun.

I don’t get it either, who am I to judge people when they are at least minimum lvl. Hecj I let a few people even if their slightly under lvl’d

It really more about communication and a bit of teamwork anyway. I’m no-one special but just saying if I did my first dungeons at lvl 27 there must be plenty of folks that can too.
