Legendary SoloQ
(edited by Fortus.6175)
I have tried, really have, but no matter how much I play anything else, I always come back to the sylvari staff ele at the end of the day, regardless of how underpowered it might feel. Something about the gameplay, something about the mechanics, just something….
No matter how hard I tried to make it happen, neither mesmer nor guardian “click” with me no matter how hard I try.
My best guess is; my favorite weapon is staff, and right now only mesmers and guardians (necro-something too i believe) are quite limited on the offensive with this. Ever since a child I imagine myself fighting side by side with Gandalf, with fireballs and dragons and what-not. (The movie was good too, but nothing beats my imagination with a book). Eles feel so fluid, so unique, refreshing, jack of all trades (but truly master of none, sadly). No matter what I play I get bored of it quickly, specially since most of the time you are constrained to one weapon, occasionally switching to the other for speed boost. I had planned for guardian to be my main, but it feels so clunky and I fail to do damage/stick to people/range.
What is your class? the class that at the end of the day you just can’t do without? Why?

Mesmer. I played a Panic Mesmer in GW1, and love how they run in GW2 as well. It’s ironic since I couldn’t get my self to like Eles no matter how much I played one. That being said, I love having a good Elementalist in my dungeon groups; kudos to you good Eles.
Thief. After 1000+ hours as my only character it’s so hard to go back to clunky cooldowns and lack of mobility. I’m giving it a shot with warrior and will probably roll a mesmer, so we’ll see how that goes.

as far as mobility goes; ele might fit you, specially D/D ele which is really strong, fliud and VERY mobile!
Mesmer. I played one launch day in GW1 for 6 years. Same with GW2. While they’re not AS complex as the GW1 mesmer I still enjoy how they play overall. There is still a little bit of thinking involved when it comes to the GW2 counterpart and overall I enjoy it.
Now all I need is an Echo skill to let me copy any of my skills in slot and I’ll be set.
Mesmer- I played one since the betas because I failed so hard at ele (which I planned to main)- and it just clicked for me.
There is something about the elegance, the illusions, the animations and the way they seem to put no effort into destroying an enemy that just appeals to me.
My Mesmer is always the eye of the storm in any fight standing perfectly still, waving one little hand while chaos happens around her.
The other class I cannot do without is Engineer- the complete opposite of my Mesmer.
Totally in your face, running around playing gunslinger, with some great explosions, jumping out of flames and if all else fails a flamethrower to the face.
Playing her is like being the hero in an action movie and I love it to bits.
For me it’s the mighty warrior! I always enjoyed warrior archetype in most mmos so warrior will always be my main
Elementalist through and through. find it harder to get bored with a class that can do both melee range attacks if I get the craving with D/D or if i’m in those moods I feel the need to be more then a damage machine I got staff. if I wanna be more defencive I can throw on a focus. Sure i’m not a master of 1 thing but who needs a 1 trick pony?
I can’t join WvW without my staff elementarist becouse:
- Permaswiftness
- 25 abilities instead of 15
- Massive aoe damage and support with short cds
- 1200 range abilities
- Downed mist form save me if I’m downed near a gate
- hard to stop if running away
the only huge problem: sooo bad in small fights (1vs1-5vs5). Better switch fast to d/d if you see enemies and you are not in a big group.
Now, Ranger.
It’s fun to be the underdog sometimes.
I’ve only tried a thief, elementalist, warrior (all to 80) and now a ranger. The ranger is by far the most powerful, in PvE anyway. I’m not sure if they’re the best kept secret in this game or if I just play it a lot better than the other classes, but they are awesome.
Necro! After played it for 800 hours i can say this is my class…
I have tried leveling alt. I ended up with a lvl 55 thief, 39 ele and a level 3 engie…
I can’t play without the amount of AOE a necro can give and the insane amount of HP (31k atm) and death shroud.. Everything else is to squishy for me
it’s the mesmer for me too, no matter how long it take to kill things with conditions, it will take long to kill me, and every time i switch to something else i feel like i’m missing something or like i’m doing nothing.
i simply can’t do without an army of me.
I have one of every class so it’s hard to pick the one I can’t do without. At the moment my thief is very mobile, agile and strong with her AOE, so I am enjoying that. However if I had to pick one, I would pick the one I am using currently, which depends on the day
In short. All of them.
I love my Engi. Always go back to him
Any other class I play just feels like I’m playing on somebody else’s account. I know the game, I know the char, it just doesn’t feel “mine”.
If that even makes sense…
for me it’s Guardian, no contest.
in GW1 I made a monk / dervish for Random Arenas that focused on smiting and aoe burning. I liked it so much I made a PvE character and ran through all 4 expansions with it. when the guardian info came out it was simply meant to be: matches my playstyle perfectly.
Guardian. Made countless of alts but I always come back. The utilities and awesome melee AOE combat just fits me like a glove.
Mesmer. This was my favorite in the original GW, and remains so in GW2 easily. I’ve liked the others so far except the thief, just haven’t the feel for it yet, but my clones… they get me man!
Tough to say, I actually really like them all. However I’d have to say Ranger is probably my most logged and achieved character, no matter the ‘animation fixes’ nerfs, the horrible pet A.I., the poor and never cleaned up traits, the power to pet ratio, the clunky to heck and back again sword auto attacks and the throw weapon equals quiver disappearing (sucks if you use axes like myself), I just keep coming back to her.
Guardian. Impossible to explain why as it is a combination of things, but I guess it just suits my playstyle.
Ranger. Rocks in pve and wvw.
Engi.
I always end up going back to my engi, it’s reliable with the right build and it’s fun winning outnumbered fights, and it’s just generally a fun profession to play
Engineer at the moment.
I pwn everything in PvE, and in PvP I can get a LOT of kills if people don’t focus fire on me.
Even with all of it’s limitations in PVE engineer is the class for me. I won’t play much of anything else. Tried the thief not really impressed, tried the ranger, deleted him because it was boring. The only other class I’d ever consider would be the guardian but those are a dime a dozen.
Staff ele is my main, she’s the one I farm with, the one I just run around and help people with, just plain goof off on [and at 80, she’s still wearing blues insert horrified gasp here. I really should look at gearing her, but….oddly, I just can’t bring myself to do it yet.
I also am building a mesmer, but I’’m not quite as ‘into’ the GW2 mes, and I was GW1. I played rupter/controller in GW1 and for me the GW2 is nothing like it. I’m trying to adapt, I really am…but it’s not going so well, lol. Maybe I just haven’t found my weapon set yet….
I love them all, but I seem to be playing my warrior the most. If they ever add a martial artist archetype, that would be my main.
Definitely my engineer. I love the versatility and I’ve been having lots of fun switching up skills and traits and experimenting to see what works best for me.
Started out as a mesmer but have since been playing my necro almost exclusively, i played an interrupter mesmer in gw1 and wanted to in gw2 also, and with the “maybe” to come traits i might even go back to mesmer again as i love interrupting.
but for now necromancer with atleast 2 spectral skills, spectral walk and spectral wall, is mny prefered setup.
