The Best Class for Me?
Well if you’re playing solo only, I think Herald(Revenant) is the best class. I say this because out of all classes, they have the highest survivability against stronger enemy types. Herald in general probably has the most survivability out of ALL classes for pve given you’re playing a dps berserker build. For open world, they have less dps than a tempest, and less utility than a warrior, but are definitely great for world bosses or events. For dungeons, typically you’ll want 1 herald in your group. The boon duration and fury is amazing. However, if you want to do a lot of raids or dungeons, tempest is a better pick for dps.
So I’d say the best class for open world pve is: Tempest
Best class for soloing content: Herald
Best class for dungeons: Tempest/Druid(if you want to go the healing or condition dps route)
Try all classes before making a decision, the listed above is just what is considered most optimal.
These classes may have some button mashing involved. If you try them and they are an issue, warrior is a good class to play.
I think rev could easily get competition from reaper and druids for solo survival. I also find druid to be a bit less button mashy than rev (if I want to utilize him fully). I don’t know about reaper since I don’t have one, but he gets recommended nonstop for solo dominance. If by dungeons you also mean fractals/raids you might want to take a look at metabattle for inspiration and rotations. Which is very subject to change, so might just wanna try stuff out and see what’s cool for you. If you purchased HoT and got an 80 boost, you can try all professions at 80 before making a choice, just without the elite specs.
For less button mashy, ranger/druid (as Corvinus has already said) is a good option. Another would be a minion master necro (you summon the critters and let them go to town), or a mesmer (specifically a phantasmal duelist bleed build, since they come out and do the bulk of the damage, leaving you free to add to the damage, support the group, rez people, etc.). Just for options.
Edit: Also, that is an entirely valid reason for another one of these threads. I hope this helps you continue to enjoy the game.
If you enjoy pet classes without the constant button mashing you might want to give MM Necro a try. In my experience it is good in all the things you want to try. On a side note if you ever need to go afk for a short time you wont come back dead and possibly might have a full bag if you have the pact commander mastery finished.
I’ll try to lay out some of my favourite classes:
*Warrior: no fear of death, even when glasscannons, their defense is heavy. If you use heavy weapons like greatswords and hammers, you might not want to use targeting, and instead play it like an action/hack’n’slash.
*Necromancer: A good caster class with heavy conditions. Especially good for soloing due to the fact that a necrotic golem is your tank.
*Elementalist: Like a necromancer, expect raw damage instead of conditions. You will have to make up for a non-tanky minion, or create earth elementals.
*Guardian: Similar to the warrior, but slightly more utility than damage. Battles will last slightly longer, but the odds will be ever in your favor.
*Engineer: Bulky, steadfast, and inventive. This class has an excellent learning curve imo. The abilities are numerous, and you can make them as complex as you want.
if you’re new, you ‘might’ wanna avoid these classes for now, as they have either difficult skills, or require a lot of training and knowledge of the picqued game mechanics before you can compete with the previously mentioned classes:
*Mesmer, heavy damage, but a very steep learning curve
*Thief, currently good for solo play, but lackluster compared to other classes.
*Ranger, like the thief, but the pet in its current AI is really annoying to control. If you wanna do dungeons/fractals, the rangers can evolve into Druids later, which makes them dedicated healers, so its something to look out for.
*Revenant, don’t get me wrong, revenant is a good class. but its rather vulnerable for a heavy, so you might want to net some experience elsewhere before making a revenant.
Thank you everyone for your suggestions, i really appreciate them! I’ll be trying a few of them and see how they turn out I’ll be giving the Necro a try for my obvious love of pets, but if it doesnt turn out ill probably try the other options
Hope everyone has a great day!
Necro is a great suggestion to fit your needs.
I made my Necro a little while ago and only got her to level 12 then gave up because i was not enjoying it and switched to Guardian. I decided to give it another try and now am level 29 playing MM necro (full minion bar) with Dagger + Warhorn (+Power for all items) and i am loving every minute!
To be honest, it fits your requirements perfectly based on your first post. Warrior is another candidate but due to your love of pets i think you will enjoy MM necro more.
Good luck
