A lot of people might not think it, but one of the best staring classes is the Mesmer, since you can create 3 clones of 3 different types(attack phantasms, defense phantasms and clones), this allows you to attack the target while its distracted by your clones, they also allow you to escape the field when on low health and my favorite way is to use them as shield when running through an area like a cave which is filled with monsters that can slow you down or stun you.
Phantasms can be great in battles since they let out an outburst of attack which do high damage within seconds, but they can only attack every (say) 5 seconds.
The best weapons for this class are great-swords, one-handed sword(s) and or with a pistol, and a staff. These are just weapons that i prefer to use with the Mesmer class.
Also with the Mesmer class you can have a lot more different techniques in battle. But they are all the things you will find out for yourself when you keep leveling up.
But first you can start with what you are limited to and have fun not dieing so quickly when battling a boss.
