This thread is an attempt to help new players and those looking to switch servers get some idea of what they’ll get on each one. In order to make it accurate and useful I’d like you to help by replying with any relevant facts about your server, or any others you know about, which you think someone might want to know.

Relevant facts are things like “unofficial Russian language server”, “Very busy during peak times EST” or “Usually top of the WvW rankings”. I’m not going to include things like “Everyone is really helpful” because everyone says that about their server. I may include specific guilds, but only if a lot of people think it’s relevant and their activities are likely to impact on the world in general.

How many players does each server hold ?

I read somewhere (wiki possibly) that the server cap is 15,000, but it’s never been entirely clear whether that includes players who are currently offline. Some people say the cap has been increased (and possibly decreased) since launch but again Anet has never said whether that’s the case or if it’s culling bots and/or inactive accounts that causes the periods when there’s a lot more open space.

Vizunah square :

French speaking.
Excellent if you like WvW and you’re looking for a WvW based guild.
Excellent if you like WvW but don’t want to commit to a guild (there is a very active public TS server to coordinate the PUs)
Average PVE activity (quite active starter areas, Orr farming, everyone is in fractals and other areas mostly empty).

I would be interested in knowing where each server’s priority’s lie.
I.E.: PvE is important to me, and WvW / PvP are not.

Maguuma:
Low PvE activity. (PvE picks up a bit on weekends.)
High Fractals, Dungeon, and WvW activity. (Not sure about PvP activity.)
Very low prices for selling items on Trading Post.

Kaineng:
Very well rounded community.
PvE areas are all active.
Fractals, Dungeons, WvW and PvP very active.

Tarnished Coast:
PvE areas all active.
Good prices for selling items on Trading Post.
Only server I’ve done a personal story with someone else (been playing since betas)

HoD:

Ghost Town. Do not transfer there.

I resent that! I like Henge. Sure it’s not the top-ranking hardcore world it once was, but as a PvE-er I have liked almost everyone I’ve encountered and I see people around often enough, though not in all areas (like everywhere else, mid-range zones are emptier, but not actually empty).

If my guild wasn’t adamant about staying I would have been off that godforsaken rock months ago. I would go as far to say it is one of the lowest population servers, and the state of Orr is horrendous. I’m glad I have enough gold for exotic armor instead of using karma or I’d be screwed since temples are NEVER open.

FYI to prices are across all servers… No server has a low tp price…..

I see a mulitude of servers with a “Full”, “High” lable …
I find it incredibly difficult to believe they’re all really, “Full” and “High” ..
It can’t possibly mean they’re at full capacity 24/7 as that’s a statistic impossibility ..
unless an ungodly amount of those populations are made up of bots.

I love how a US server is unofficially a NOT US server.
