I was simply wondering if it was best for my wallet to buy it directly (about 500g) or to try and get one from the mystic forge. If you think the mystic forge is best, what level do the weapons have to be? I heard that lvl 76 works?

I think the items must be 75+ for the mystic forge to have a chance to give a precursor. However it is extremely unreliable. If you have the gold and don’t mind getting it off the trading post then just buying it is probably your best option.

It’s hard to say which will be cheaper because the Mystic Forge is random.

There is a chance for any 4 rare or exotic rifles level 76 or above to give you The Predator. But it’s a very low chance (about 0.79%). In theory you could get it on your first try. Or you could spend 1000g buying rifles and end up with nothing.

So buying it might cost more, or it might cost less. In my opinion it’s certainly far less frustrating because you know (roughly) what your target is and you know when you’ve reached it, and there’s no risk of putting a bid in to buy one and losing all your gold because the random number generator threw up the wrong number. Which makes it by far the better option to me.
