Guild Wars 2

Is there any way to recover it? I sold it hoping they’d have the common sense to itemize similar hoods but no such luck. All we get are crappy-looking masks.

If there isn’t, any other similar hoods around?

At this point in time I don’t think there are any thief hoods on the market.. Trust me I’ve looked. I just want something better than the level 1 hood. Unfortunately if you’ve sold it I’m not sure if it’s possible to get it back :|.

Try out the Crucible of Eternity dungeon armor, or the Order of Whispers Armor.

These 2 are pretty much the only Thief themed armors in the game right now.

-create a new thief with a hood
-mail hood to your 1st thief
-transmute the hood

I don’t know any other details

As the hood is soulbound it will most likely not be possible directly. You could either put the hood into the bank and try to transmute from there or, if not possible, transmute it to some random white helmet (thus making it no longer soulbound), and then transmute it onto the target item.
I actually never tried it, so this is merely a theory, but likely your best bet.

I just answered a similiar question on a fan site, GW2Guru, and came to the same theory. However, I just made a new Thief to test this. It would seem the hood itself is Soulbound, instead of Account bound. So you cannot send it to your old character, nor can you store it in your bank and take it out with your old character.

This kind of sucks. It seems once you sold that hood/mask/headband, its gone.

Yeah I had this same problem. I even tried to send a new thiefs hood to my character. That wasn’t an option so I instead opened a ticket asking if they could recover the item for me. Or what their policy on that situation atleast. Here is what I received:

This freaking sucks. And “unable to refund items or characters”? They really are new at game developing, lol.

At least make the hood reobtainable via NPC in your home instance or something. This is crap.

Make new thief.
Buy a white medium headpiece.
Transmute hood and headpiece together.
Now the transmuted hood is no longer soul bound.
Put in bank.
Get on main thief.
Transmute above hood with your high level mask.
Now you have a powerful hood.
Done.

I tried this, the hood is still soulbound. The soulbound part of it comes with the looks.

I did it the other day. I don’t know if they changed it since then but I was able to send my main a new hood.

I Transmute my Hood, as i think the Ninja masks look a bit silly on my Charr :P

I did it as well. You have to do the steps correctly, but it works.

Here is the subtlety that I believe is causing the erratic results. Some lowbie white grade masks are Bind on Acquire – it does not say so in the game but you can find it on GW2DB. The simple workaround is to buy a lowbie mask off the TP, by definition it will not be soulbound (unless you put it on!!) Transmute that and you should be good.

I’ve just done it as well. The description said soulbound once the item had been transmuted on my alt, but it still let me transmute it on my main character with the helm I was wearing.

Do it as above. But very important: the Hood has to be on the left side of the transmutation window. Drag and drop the Hood first. After the transmutation the item will be Account-bound.

I just wanted to chime in that this trick still works (as of a week or two ago). I bought a level 10 white headpiece off of the TP, transmuted, and the item became account bound. Also works on the Necromancer eyes.
