Q:

I have had the game since day one. (I pre-ordered the CE as soon as I knew I could.)

About a week after I started playing, my three year old alienware laptop started over heating. Not only would it quit and shut off occasionally, but it also was unable to reach 30FPS.

This was not the first game I had issues with.

So, I did what I should have done before I bought this laptop. I did research and started to learn where I went wrong. Turns out, the processor’s clock speed was horrid. 1.73GHz was way less than this game needed. Reaching my breaking point, I taught myself how to build a computer using my very first computer. I took it apart and then reassembled it many times. Each time, it worked.

Now, I’m building a new machine. My first build will be able to play this game, and I will give it everything I can. I had to go cheap with the motherboard, but everything else is what I want. Please tell me how this will improve the game for me.

Looks good.

I might recommend that you get a cooling unit / heat sink for the CPU. It may just be fine though. I’ve never used the stock unit that comes with the CPU since I like to overclock.

I wanted the option of overclocking if I needed it, but keeping the stock fan on it saved me some money. Overclocking is nice, but I’m not thinking I’ll need it with that good of a CPU.

Any idea on how this will run the game?

On highest settings – and if it doesn’t, just turn your resolution down a bit A friend has very similar system and is running GW2 at max settings just fine.

(heck, I have one that is slightly weaker and can run it on max settings on 40-50 fps, but then my monitor is kind of old and can’t handle more than 1240×1024)

I went with a cheap mobo to save money, but will that cause any issues/drop in performance?
