Thief, 80, What now? ( WvW)
I don’t believe thief is a good zerg class unless you can stealth around the outside and pick off zerg stragglers. If you try to stay in the middle of the zerg you’ll become fodder for the enemy. Thieves are great for solo or small group roaming though.
If you really want zerg action, I suggest re-rolling a new class. Warrior, guardian, or necro are all good zerg classes. You can try out each one but I suggest looking for a build in the specific forums first and try to find one that is similar to your playstyle (like if you really like range then maybe necro would be good, something that uses staff and axe/warhorn).
The nice thing about WvW is that you can contribute while you level up.
Thief isnt ideal zerg material HOWEVER…
Is a profession that a lot of roamers and solo roamers use. Want to bring QQ to the forums? Thief is the answer with the current meta being a D/P build:

The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”
Thief is almost exclusively a troll class in WvW. It can burst down weaker targets and annoy small groups. It has some relatively minor utility in zerg fights.
It also takes skill to play well. So in terms of bang-for-you-buck, it’s probably not much of a bargain.
It’s the first class I levelled to 80 and it’s the one I’ve played least since. (Exclusively WvW player)
Try Mesmer?
Permastealth. Useless ish in zergs but broken in 1v1s. You need zerk gear for this; the thief is brokenly underpowered out of stealth and brokenly overpowered in stealth because the class is too weak and stealth is too strong. Max utility comes from high damage for a second out of stealth and exiting as rarely as possible. All other stats are irrelevant; you should never be hit when in stealth anyway.
It ain’t the burstiest thing out there though. A 30-10-0-0-30 zerkwar can ohko the majority of builds in WvW…
