Guild Wars 2

I’m super new to GW2, but as I’ve been watching a lot of Log Horizon (Anime) I decided to be a thief, becauase it’s the closes thing to a ninja/assasin I could think of.
At some point I got a pistol from an enemy, and realized I could dual-wield it with my dagger, the problem is all my attacks are based on the gun.
Even when I get close to the enemy, I’m still shooting the enemy while my dagger just looks pretty.
What I’m wondering is, how do I properly use dual-wielding and set my skills the way I like them.

if you go into the hero panel (press h), and look under the equipment tab, you can switch the positions of the dagger and pistol (drag the dagger into the top square). this will put the dagger in your main hand

The one handed weapons attack skills almost always show single use. One exception is pistol/pistol on thief where skill 3 shows both pistols being used. Except for the exceptions you will only see one weapon being used at a time. It’s simply the way the animations are set to display.

For Pistol and Dagger, you can swap them around. What you’re using is Pistol in mainhand with Dagger in the offhand. You can swap them and then you’ll be using Dagger as your main, with a pistol sidearm.

Though personally, if I was making a Thief based on Akatsuki, I’d go with with Sword/Dagger. Or even Dagger/Dagger.

I couldn’t find a one handed sword, unfortunately, that was the original plan hah, I’ll probably switch once I get one though! thanks

Found a main hand sword, the skills seem really good, but the dagger/dagger dual-wield really reminds me of Akatsuki. Ah, can’t decide >.>

You have lots of time to experiment. I like dagger pistol for the stun/blind then close with dagger.
Weapons are cheap, play around with different ones and decide.
