Thief P/P Leveling, Does It Work?
Well I cannot comment on other kiters, I have only played the Thief class past level 5, but Pistol/Pistol is a single target set up. I can kite single targets very easily with pistols and with a Shortbow, the Agility signet helps a bit also.
If you want to have fun kiting use a short bow, each of its auto attacks hit four targets and if you stack condition dmg you get AOE poison shot and an AOE explosive shot. Also later in the skill tree i forget which one you get an ability that casts caltrops when you evade which is also condition based. Make sure to use that to slow the enemies keep poisons up, you can shred everything. Cheers
while generally the shortbow is more flexible than the pistol both work out well. pistol is very much single target until you can get recochet (bullets bounce between targets). Utility skills such as needle trap and tripwire also help a lot for kiting.
If you want to kite with pistol use pistol/dagger.
Grab condition damage gear and traits, double dagger, and dance over everythings’ heads… don’t forget to dodge a lot… then kite while waiting for your initiative to come back up… way faster and way more effective way to level than traditional ranged kiting. I’m lvl 55, discovered this at lvl 25, and laugh so hard every time i kill 30 things at once… and I can easily take on 3 veterans 1 or 2 levels above me, solo, at the same time… it’s awesome. Bleed knows no armor or level effect, whereas direct damage from swords and pistols is greatly affected by the level difference between you and your target… so killing things higher level than you with traditional kiting takes MUCH longer and is more dangerous.

P/P is a single target nuke set-up, and a good one that is. To answer your question, yes, it can work while leveling. Simply nuke, roll out of the away, nuke again, rinse and repeat. By the time you run out of energy anything should be dead already. For tough opponents, dual pistol is not that great, better go P/D which gives you infinite kiting. Against packs of mobs go shortbow.
In the end, don’t expect to be able to level using just on weapon set. It’s much better to swap and adapt to what your put up against.

Isent ricochet a 5% ability? Or does it like crits happen much more often than it says?
