Thief vs Ranger
Try an engineer or necromancer. They seem to be the most fun to play. engineer can be tricky to play well, Necro has a nice selection of builds and ways to play. (you don’t need to bother with minions if you so choose)
Elemintalist suck up to about lv 40, after you might enjoy them more.
what is it exactly about playing that you find boring?.. do you die lots? struggle to level? Uninteresting attacks? Not good in events? PvP etc?
Or is it less the classes and more the game itself?
Don’t pick a class based on the metagame at the moment. ANet rebalances everything pretty much all the time, and they’ve been promising Ranger changes for a while (so it’s bound to happen soon). If you think you’ll like Ranger, then play Ranger.
However, I also want to point out that other classes might also fit your playstyle. Warriors are pretty decent at long ranges, and Thieves, while lacking the longer range weapons, still does well with Shortbows and Pistols, while having traps to boot. The concept of “playing at range then moving into melee” is pretty prevalent among many classes – it’s how you want to play this style that should determine what class you choose.
I’m sure as you already know, Ranger is pretty cut and dry for this style. They have more mobility than others, and have the traps you like.
Warrior is also pretty cut and dry, but they’re less mobile and have more straightforward utilities. Adrenaline skills can really pack a punch for ranged weapons.
Thieves have to fight much closer than rangers, and have lots of skills and traits to keep them mobile and avoiding attacks. They also play a bit differently because of their Initiative class mechanic, and have the traps you like, although these are more for CC than for conditions like Ranger traps are.
From your description, it sounds like you didn’t like Ranger very much. I’d give Thief a try – their playstyle certainly is faster because weapon skills have no cooldown.

INSANELY subjective. Necromancer is what I consider to be the least fun profession, after Ranger.
It’s hard to help you. So far you’ve pretty much said that you like cool animations. Based on that, I’d say the Elementalist wielding daggers, but that’s however a very poor reason on its own to pick a profession.
Your initial impression of a Profession might not be just to what makes the profession fun to play.

Gw2 is a masterpiece at it’s foundation. Content-wise however…

Engineer does sound nice although i find him a little bit weak at pvp.
And i find boring uninteresting attacks, maybe i’m expecting too much from mmo’s xD
the game itself is awesome, i just need to choose a profession.
Thank you very much for the help!

Thanks very much for the help, i’ll give it another thought, I haven’t played ranger a lot but even though i think i want to go with the one who has more interesting attacks and skills between ranger and thief.

The Engineer is a very complex profession. All of these problems are easily fixed with a fitting build. I used to play a Grenade-engineer, which was the dullest thing imaginable. Then I tried something else, which is very challenging, rewarding and extremely fun to play.

Did you use the flamethrower? Which build was the one you most liked?
Thanks for the help.
Glad to see such a great community over here ^^
It’s pretty subjective whether Thief or Ranger has the more interesting attacks. Ranger attacks are definitely more flashy, and they do have a few attacks that really stand out, but I think Thief skills are more interesting because each skill does more than one thing – for instance, Death Blossom is for evasion, mobility, bleeding, and AoE. Once again, this is personal opinion, and you should not use this to determine what you play unless you think we share the same preferences.
As for Engineer, they’re pretty great, but they’re a bit different than other classes. To achieve optimal damage or condition stacking it’s often better to switch between kits quickly, rather than sticking to a single bar of weapon skills. It’s sort of like Elementalist switching attunements constantly, except you’re pulling out random gadgets from somewhere in your breeches.

well it depends what you want to do
if you like the adrenaline of WvW then ranger is the last profession you wanna pick [I know ‘cas I’m a ranger myself]. Rangers get discriminated a lot, no one wants to peer with them, even worst when enemies see a ranger they don’t think twice about attacking
A ranger is best for solo-adventerous players who like exploring more than anything else, you get an extensive selection of pets that you can tame in virtually every map and with speed and the farthest longbow shot of any profession you will not have to fear for your life.
I enjoy my ranger and I don’t think I would change him in a long time. Had a fight with a thief in WvW. I was impressed to say the least, thiefs are masters of deceit, they disappear in one place and appear in another and their stealth is superb it is the perfect profession if you are a solo-sneaky player.
So it all depends what you feel your role in a group (or alone) would be
I have a Thief (DPS build), Ranger (Bearbow build), Warrior (Tanky Shout build) and Necro (conditionmancer build) all at level 80 and several hundred hours playtime under each one.
For me the list goes (most fun first):
PvE (thief, ranger, necro, warrior)
WvW (thief, warrior, necro, ranger)
PvP (necro, thief, ranger, warrior)
In the end, one of the reasons I love GW2 is the variety of game experiences there is. Different classes suit different game dynamics so either choose the one for your favourite part of the game or make several and switch between them like I do.
Map completion/champs – Thief
Dungeons (with PUGs) – Warrior
Dungeons (with guild) – Thief
sPvP – Necro
WvW (roaming) – Necro or Thief
WvW (zerg) – Warrior or Thief
You will notice I don’t really play the ranger – I have yet to find a fun build but I am still looking.
