Hello all,

I have played my elementalist since release, playing on and off depending on real life commitments etc…

I have recently been contemplating creating an alt character, which in my mind would either be a warrior or a guardian….

My reason for creating an alt would be to trying out the meter class as its what I used to play in other mmo games where “tanks” were required.

How much of a pain is it to level and alt? Do you guys go about it the same way as you did with your main or did you level a different way?

Which of the two professions do you guys think is better and by better I mean the funner profession to play, in solo and pve.

Thanks in advance..

Having leveled both, I think I enjoyed guardian better than warrior, but mainly it’s personal preference, I’ve found I always tend to gravitate towards melee magic users in most MMOs I’ve played (druid and paladin in WoW, Justicar in Rift, Dark Templar in Age of Conan and so on).

My asura warrior is the third character I’ve gotten to 80 (others a sylvari guardian and norn mesmer), I found myself trying different things on each one as I leveled, going to different areas, picking different orders, different things in the personal story (though only my guardian has gone past claw island).

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

Thank you for the advice, I really enjoyed my paladin tank when I played WoW.

What are guardians like when using two handed sword as appose to main hand and shield? Is two handed sword the viable dips spec for them?

I generally use a greatsword (2h) specced for a mix of DPS and support (I use staff as secondary, switching to scepter-shield when needing ranged attacks), and seems to work great so far. I do decent damage, of course not as much as a full serker warrior, but with lots of survavility and support.

In general each weapon seems best suited for a different task in guardians, greatsword = AoE melee damage, Staff = Support with a little bit of AoE short to medium range (the autoattack is AoE, so it’s great to tag enemies in big encounters), scepter = ranged both ST and AoE, sword = single target melee DPS, Hammer = Control with some AoE Melee DPS, mace = defense and healing, shield = defense, torch = burning and cleansing (I think I didn’t miss any)

I found leveling my alt much faster than my first character. I used a combination of map exploration, WvW (follow a big zerg around and map completion), and crafting. Crafting probably got me at least half of my levels. I didn’t complete all maps on my alt, but I did make sure to get all of the waypoints for the world bosses. If you have the materials or gold, a guide like this one can get you leveled up quickly http://www.guildwars2-crafting.com/crafting-guides/ . It generally takes about 10 gold to level one craft, if you have to buy all of the materials.

You forgot focus. Blind, +DPS, block, AoE damage, <3.
While the things you have listed are true it is only the start. I like to melee with my scepter with my current build because of Renewed Justice and Blind Exposure. Sword is also not entirely single start and #2 and #3 gives you a bit of range depending on the situation. Hammer is also very good for defense because of Protection. It can also heal and/or apply vulnerability depending on traits. It also has a blast finisher on #2 with the second fastest recharge(fastest would be thief’s Cluster Bomb).
