Thinking of returning
The trait change system will have literally no effect on how quickly you learn all your weapon skills.
The trait change re-arranged the levels that you get traits at (0 till 30) It’s a bit more limiting then the previous system when it comes to building your character as you level. The only other limitation that was added/changed is now you must unlock each individual trait, not just buy a book for each tier. Unlocking can be done by purchasing the trait from a trainer or doing a fairly easy task.
I’m not really a big fan of the change, but It’s by no means game breakingly bad.
I agree with Miku. It was not a positive change for me but certainly not anything that rises to the level of a game changer.
I feel the same way. I don’t like this new method of acquiring traits, but it doesn’t ruin the game for me. The only thing it really does is make any new characters I roll a bit more tedious when it comes to traiting them.
You will acquire so many of them during just regular gameplay. Participate in events and do some bosses along the way. If there is a trait you really want it tells you what / how you need to do to acquire it. Obviously you don’t need every trait, but you can set a goal and get the ones you want. As you acquire the ones you want you will have the build you desire to get the rest of them. You can also unlock them with SP’s and Gold from the trainers.

If you hate open world stuff it’ll feel worse than if you like it. I like and don’t mind open world stuff, so it’s not much of a problem for me. However, there are some traits you have to do dungeons or WvW for, or buy with silver/gold plus skill points.

I love the open world stuff. Did dungeons back when I played before, and hated GW2 dungeons. No interest in WvWvW, as my comp isn’t top notch, so it is a lag fest.

You can unlock any trait with silver or gold and some skill points. It’s not the big deal people are making it out to be.
You can look up any trait in the wiki and see how it is acquired. Or in-game using the Trait Interface.
My advice is just to acquire gold, lookup the builds you want to run, and then buy the traits. That’s what I do. It’s fun to occasionally “unlock” something, but there’s no need to play the game on someone else’s timeline.
That said, no, it’s quite easy to level a character these days. The trait system is bad and (in my opinion) has no redeeming qualities whatsoever, but the fact that you can buy one of the 2-3 only grandmaster traits you’ll ever use for 1.5g isn’t too bad.

The responses here, after I made that post, have caused me to not make a final decision yet. Likely, I’ll just let the computer download and patch the thing, and give it a shot. Nothing to lose but a little time, after all.
I also hate this forum name. I wish I could change the thing. It’s what I get for being busy and telling my teenager to set up the account for me when I first bought the game. /Sigh.

As for the traits thing – try it and see. See where you sit in the scale of “This Completely Sucks I Can’t Play This Anymore” to “Meh Whatever”. Only you can really decide.

Unfortunately, you can not change your Display Name. We are all stuck with our choices at Account creation. =/
Welcome return to Tyria, I hope you enjoy your time and find Season Two something different and worth playing. =)
They can force changes to display names if they deem them unacceptable for whatever reason so it is possible if they are willing. You can always contact support via the link at the top of the page and hope for the best.
I once commented on a gentleman’s choice of user name and thought he’d changed it himself but he may have had help from cs. It was grubby enough.
