This game needs some serious stability fixes
Sorry to say, but I think the issue is not so much the game as it is your PC.
PC hardware doesn’t always play nice with each other, which might only occur when doing certain things like playing a game. Doesn’t even have to be every game.
1) update drivers
2) change sound settings in game
Sounds like the sound bug, so turn the sound quality in options to the middle setting (as in not highest quality). This might fix your problem.
Other than that you should have posted this in tech support. ANet can help you there if the problem persists.

Silly yet predictable answer from an expert I guess.
Maybe read the plethora of posts about the games bugs and performance, including the the one that ANET has already been looking into due to the horrendous issues with connection stability etc etc.
Sure a driver update might help with FPS and sound settings can be adjusted.. but if you think that’s the reasoning behind the games inability to provide half decent FPS, stability then you need to open your eyes wider me thinks… lets not even talk about the heavy culling, ability delays and slideshows in WvWvW or any local dragon event where FPS plummets to low single digits for many players inclding myself and my system is way beyond min specs.
I haven’t found a permanent solution to the sound bug. Sure you can get rid of the alarm sound. But now you have constantly loud pops and breaks in the sound. Searched through out all of the tech support boards and there is no answer to any of them.
It’s hard to pinpoint the cause but the game doesn’t have any huge stability issues. The only known one is the sound bug which can cause crash (you will hear an annoying whum whum whum noise and a lost of sound. The remedy for this is to turn the sound quality down to the lowest. Anything else is rarely cause by the game itself and more related to your computer.
If you’re having connection issues you may also consider checking out your own internet connection too. i.e. is the ping good and are you experiencing any abnormally high packet lost? are you on lan cable or wireless etc?
I’d like to point out that the “slide show” in WvW and Dragon events is your CPU bottlenecking. This game is incredibly CPU bound.
The input lag during dragon events is the server, however.
I just wanted a AAA MMO with no sub made by ArenaNet. And it’s awesome.”
You’re part of a minority. This game has pretty good stability since release.

I have found a permanent solution to the sound bug btw, control panel → audio → properties → set sound to 24bit 48,000mhz.
Never happened again since.
I have not been able to finish a single group event in the past 2 weeks because every time im even near the event, the game crashes. When i finally get back the whole even is done, or nearly done, but even if i do some damage or join the last few seconds, i get nothing. This is extremely frustrating. I dont even just get them at events, it happens randomly when im exploring too. Sound goes off, start making a weird alarm type noise in my left ear of my headset and then a few seconds later crashes, and i experience that atleast 15 times a day.
Yes i repaired the game several times and my fps is capped and always at 60 fps.
Since release i crashed maybe 2 times.
Yea I also VERY rarely crash (maybe once in the last 2 months). The sound thing (which is the crash that I had) is more than likely due to cheap onboard crappy sound cards (I have yet to see a Mobo with an actual decent sound card, and just because it says creative xifi doesnt mean its good)
I since picked up an Asus Xonar essence STX and havent had the sound thing happen once.
They put in some kind of sound fix maybe last patch? Haven’t had the sound bug at Jormag since then, anyhow, but now sound does take a while to start up when I zone into heavily populated areas.
As far as the crashing, if it were happening to everyone I’d say it’s a.net’s problem, but yeah, you probably need to update your drivers.
I’ve got the same problem minus the “alarm” sound issue. I crash during dragon events and huge wvw events with zergs butting heads. Feels bad, man.
I can’t put up with it any more and I’ll be updating to a less resource-hogging OS (ugh Vista) and more memory next month, everything else on my computer is dandy and it should fix the problem. Sorry you’re having to go through this, too.
The only sound issue I have is an incredibly loud, echoing crack. I don’t know what causes it, but it made me drop a drink on myself one time and rip off my headphones another. Very, very jarring; I don’t deal well with sudden, loud noises like that and I wish it would stop.
