Q:
This is probably weird, but...
Hold the right mouse key to pan without changing direction.
The other bit I don’t notice really so can’t say I have needed to remove it or even known when it was activated/inactivated.

That’s the way I always pan. I wonder if my controls are messed up. Left-click pan is buggy for me iirc (even though this is Windows)… or it could be the right thing.
There’s a few threads that are probably buried now about ageis. The role play community especially dislikes it and people who use shields as it clips and looks bad. Unfortunately there isn’t anything that can be done about it except as you already figured out with getting hit to remove it.

This is the right answer. I miss-remembered which it was.
In Options, Controls, key bindings, in the Camera section there is a binding for “look behind”. This makes the camera spin from behind looking forward(with a view of the back of your character) to in front of your character looking back.(with a view of the front of your character) It will hold this view as long as you hold that key down, and works while moving.
I don’t think there is a way to disable the aegis shield effect. It makes me wish there was a “photo mode” where characters would sit still and not go into idle animations, auto stow weapons, etc… And you could disable undesired effects.
