So my plan is to get the cheapest exotic armor as possible, (draconic) either with beserker stats or knight stats , havnt decided yet, and then im going to transmute a mix of priory order heavy armor, with some other things (cant tell my secret armor setuplooks bomb!).

I figure the max crafting armor will do DRACONIC ARMOR or whatever i heard it might be cheaper to buy it off the tradepost then to craft it?

Keep in mind i have hoarded lots of low level armors, my armor smithing is at lvl 1 however. I would be willing to level it up if its cheapest to craft it.

EDIT* I KNOW YOU GOTTA LOOK AT PRICES I DID LOOK AT PRICES FOR DRACONION COAT (KNIGHTS) IS 3 GOLD 87 SILVER*

You wont have collected enough of the rare materials(Vial of Blood and such) by leveling to craft your way to 400, so youll end up having to spend a few gold buying mats unless you want to farm it.

But I have no idea what the costs of just buying a set is right now, so I cant help you there. Theres also karma vendor exotics in Orr. I also havnt been 80 for long so I dont know what this Draconic Armor is, but this may help: http://dulfy.net/2012/10/03/gw2-endgame-gearing-guide/

Depends, prices fluctuate on both mats and gear.

You can see the mats required for what you want to craft here:
http://www.gw2db.com

and then just look on the TP to see which would be cheaper.

just want to clarify im not a newb just wondering whats cheaper, thats inclucing buying SOME mats for crafting mostly only few extra high teir mats, i do have most of the mats needed though, so a ballpark figure would be cool

So if ur saying i have to check the prices since they fluctuate your telling me theirs not a huge different in costs between crafting – buying

It really all depends on the specific item and current supply/demand of the armor pieces vs. crafting materials. It’s difficult for folks to give a definitive answer to your question because the market can and does fluctuate and something that was cheaper to buy yesterday may be cheaper to craft today. And folks really have no clue specifically what mats you have on-hand, which impacts your total crafting cost.

I think your best bet is to go to www.gw2spidy.com, go to the Crafting section and look for the items you are considering equipping. Each craftable item has an entry that will indicate the cost to buy vs. the total cost to craft so you can determine whether it’s cheaper to craft or buy. And even better, it lists all the crafted ingredients needed to craft the item and the buy cost vs. craft cost those ingredients as well.

Now keep in mind that the total cost to craft is based on current market prices to buy the mats and craft the items yourself and doesn’t take into account mats that you already have on-hand. So an item that may appear to be cheaper “buy” on gw2spidy may actually be cheaper for you to craft if you already have all or most the materials on-hand. But it at least it can help you make an educated decision!

yea i know it fluctuates and i know no one can tell what i have but they could tell me if its cheaper to craft said items or buy, then i could do the rest myself.

Anyway though, that website is exactly what i needed thanx for the link!

If you’re concerned about price, consider getting one of the “free” sets for armor, so you can save your money for accessories.

With the big increase in karma since launch, those sets are very accessible. I know someone who just got his first 80 and had more than enough to get a full 6-piece exotic set, no farming required.

There’s also dungeon armor/weapon, which is “free”. Whether you do it 1 run per day or do all three paths (60 tokens per path), you build it up pretty quickly.

In a game where you can just buy gold for real money, I can see that going the quick route and spending gold for it is definitely an option. But if you’re cost conscious, it’s prob’ly not the best way, because prices are inflated by the people who aren’t sensitive to cost.

It’s cheaper to craft them yourself, especially if you manage to get exotics every now and then by salvaging 70+ yellows.

Having said that, it’s probably only cheaper if you were crafting (or have crafted) your way to 400, wearing/using what you make as you go, because you find that fun. If you are looking at it from the perspective of having ‘no’ crafting skill and trying to decide what will be cheaper, then I’d just buy them with karma.
