[Took a long break]What has changed?
Loads of nerfs…
I suggest thoroughly reading the patch notes released since you last played, and depending on your class, weep and move on, or carry on playing ..
If you want all the details you could read the update notes: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Game_updates
Off the top of my head:
- There’s been a lot of bug fixes,
- Server transfers are no longer free but guesting is possible now,
- There’s more Ascended items and more ways to get them,
- You have different daily achievements each day and can pick which ones to do,
- Daily achievements reward a new currency which can be used to buy a bunch of stuff, including some Ascended items,
- Guilds can now start their own events which members and non-members can join in with,
- Open world bosses are now guarenteed to drop 1 rare item for every player over level 40, but you can only get it from each boss once per day
- There’s been a bunch of changes to WvW, including an attempt to stop culling, and some changes to PvP but I don’t play either of those so I’m not sure what they are,
- Also various balance updates and changes to skills. Both buffs and nerfs IMO but if you ask in the profession forums they’ve all been nerfed to oblivion.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Loads of nerfs…
LOL—best answer I have seen in a while—short, sweet, truth.
But for more details look at the patch notes.
I also took a long break and just came back recently. I stopped playing somewhere around October and just got back into GW2 at the beginning of this month.
Despite everyone’s whining, I’m very happy with most of what they’ve done so far. There will always be nerfs and buffs, and people will always complain no matter what ANet does, but overall I think they’re doing a good job keeping the game fun and interesting.
I suggest you take a look at the patch notes and familiarize yourself with new things like the living world events, guild events, the currency (Laurels I believe?) and the WvW changes.
I tend to do a little bit of everything, and find pretty much every aspect of the game fun right now.
Enjoy, and welcome back!
Tarnished Coast [Crit]
Among all the other changes, they added preview of TP items, moved hip items out to reduce clipping, and you can preview wielded weapons or just the weapons themselves. It’s not a huge gameplay change but sure helps quality of life.
The game is slowly and gently heading in a good direction and taking it’s sweet time. You haven’t missed out on any Flame and Frost content yet.
If you leave for 3 more months the return will be all the sweeter, but still not a huge list of major overhauls.

I’m curious what you mean by he hasn’t missed any Flame and Frost content yet?
Obviously since I just came back too I had thought about this. It seems like it’s on part 3 right now with the two NPC missions, so doesn’t that mean we missed parts 1 and 2?

I think you can still earn achievements from previous parts. The broken signposts and campires etc.
When Part 2 came out , Part 1 was still very much available to do
They stated in the patch notes that all three parts are still available. You will get less of a sense of developing story if you are simultaneously aiding refugees fleeing a mysterious thing and fighting that mysterious thing in events at portals, but you can do it.
Sounds like a lot of new things being implemented which means a lot of new things to learn. I kinda dislike complicated games… But I’ll give it a try anyway. Thanks everyone!
