Torn Between
Tip 1: Play what you like best in playstyle and don’t worry too much bout the looks. There are many armors later on and e.g. some armors that have a more cloth and leatherly look. You can actually preview all armor skins in the heart of the mists (sPvP szaging area).
Tip 2: same goes for weapons. a certain combination might have caught your eyes, but your first concern should be to develop a playstyle and become a good player.
Finally, A mesmer has more potential to be good at WvW. in PvE i must say I prefer the guardian more.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Make both?
If you can’t, however, I’d suppose you’d stick with Guardian. Mesmer are cool, but I was a beginner with a Mesmer and I highly regret that pick. Not that I hate the class or the toon (still have it, my main even) but Mesmers have a huge learning curve.
Guardian will be the easier class to learn the game on. While I haven’t built a Mesmer yet, they seem to be a high skill / high reward class. That isn’t to say the Guardians don’t have their challenges, but their abilities tend to be more forgiving while you’re learning about when to dodge and how the game thinks / operates. For WvW situations, a well played Mesmer is a nightmare for other people. Yet I wouldn’t suggest starting there.
When I was learning GW2, I used a Warrior and it is a very forgiving class in the lower levels. After I got a good game foundation, I made my Thief. I was surprised about just how fragile I was compared to my Warrior, but I had thankfully learned about dodging and how many mobs I could deal with through my prior experience. It made it a lot easier to level up my Thief as a result.
You don’t have to choose. Have them both! Seriously, hear me out.
It is a good thing to have two (or in my case it was three) characters levelling at the same time. It became for them a sort of In-character race to keep up with the others. I was never bored. If I didn’t like to do something with one of them, I switched to another. They all had different Personal Stories going, so that was a plus too.
Also, if you specialize them in different crafts their gathering will benefit both.
Well considering the replies, I might stick with the guardian or a warrior now.
What would be the ideal weapon set for a WvW warrior? I already have my ideas for my guard so no problem with that.
Also a small background for thieves on PvE please?
I’d start with the guardian and learn the basics of them game first, cause once you roll the mesmer you wont need anything else. I haven’t leveled a guardian so I’m a bit biased…. Let’s see….
They both offer heavy support in pve situations. They are both welcomed and valued in dungeons. Guardian was an easier time tagging mobs in DE situations, but mesmer in the right hands can do fine with it.
Mesmers are always welcome and needed in WvW. They dominate in small scale and large scale battles and have the tools to completely obliterate almost any opponent 1 on 1.
I’d say Mesmer is the most well rounded finished class because they have SO many ways to play them. Confusion builds, shatters, crit builds, condition damage, support, tank-y and they all work wonderfully. I think everyone should at least try this class.
